On the afternoon of May 13, in Dong Ha City (Quang Tri Province), the Steering Committee for the Merger and Association of Administrative Units of Quang Binh and Quang Tri Province held its first meeting. The meeting aimed to unify key contents related to building the organizational apparatus, arranging cadres and preparing for the Provincial Party Congress.
At the meeting, the Secretary of Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Long Hai asked the Steering Committee to consolidate the two provinces to continue promoting the achieved results, overcome the limitations, especially in the propaganda information to create a high consensus among the staff and people. He emphasized that the newly consolidated province has a much better development space, officials need to be assured of their work and believe in a new orientation.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang affirmed that organizing party congresses at all levels after the merger is a particularly important task. The congress documents need to clearly express the aspirations, development vision and new space of Quang Tri province after the merger. Mr. Le Ngoc Quang suggested that Party committees at all levels enhance their sense of responsibility, solidarity, fairness, and objectivity in personnel organization work, absolutely avoiding local ideology.
The Steering Committees for the two provinces have agreed to focus on a number of key tasks, first of all, developing a Project to establish a new Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee to ensure compliance with the Party Charter and the instructions of the Central Government; rearranging district and commune-level party organizations; merging commune-level administrative units; arranging and rational use of existing cadres, civil servants and public employees.
Notably, the new Quang Tri province plans to arrange members of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee to hold the position of Secretary of the Commune Party Committee in some key areas. At the same time, a number of provincial-level cadres will be mobilized and rotated to hold key positions at the grassroots level to enhance leadership capacity. Along with that, plans to arrange facilities for new provincial agencies, public housing and policies to support cadres are urgently being studied and implemented.
It is known that after the merger, Quang Tri province has a political - administrative center located in Dong Hoi city. The new province has an area of nearly 12,700km2, a population of more than 1.8 million people and 78 commune-level administrative units.
