According to the commune-level merger project of Soc Trang province, the province currently has 108 communes, wards and towns, if the number of administrative units is reduced by at least 70%, there will be 32 communes and wards. Including 5 wards and 27 communes and towns.

Soc Trang City after the arrangement is expected to have 2 wards, Soc Trang Ward and My Xuyen Ward. Vinh Chau town still has 4 wards and communes; Nga Nam town still has 2 wards and communes; Long Phu and Ke Sach districts each have 4 communes and towns; My Tu, Tran De, Thanh Tri, My Xuyen districts each have 3 communes and towns; Chau Thanh and Cu Lao Dung districts each have 2 communes and towns.
Soc Trang Provincial Party Secretary Lam Van Man said that the locality has developed a project to reorganize the commune level to ensure connectivity and synchronization. This project will be consulted by the people and submitted to the Provincial People's Council, then submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs for synthesis, development of a Government project, and submission to the National Assembly.
The total number of commune-level administrative units in Soc Trang province was previously 109. In early September 2024, Ward 9 was merged into Ward 1 (Soc Trang City) according to Resolution No. 1105/NQ-UBTVQH15 dated July 23, 2024 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units in the 2023-2025 period, the remaining province has 108 communes, wards and towns.
