Soc Trang - localities in the province conducted opinions on voters about the plan to merge the administrative unit at the commune level and merged the provincial level.

In 2 days (15 - 16.4), localities in Soc Trang province simultaneously collected voters about the plan of arranging administrative units at the grassroots level and provincial level. The results of the voters will be an important basis for the province to complete the plan before submitting to the competent authorities for consideration and decision in the coming time.

As noted, the process of gathering voters takes place exciting in all communes, wards and townships in the province. People have actively participated through two main forms: community meetings and receive votes directly at households.

According to the plan of arranging administrative units at the grassroots level in Soc Trang province after the arrangement, the province will reduce from 108 communes, wards and townships remaining 43 units (8 wards and 35 communes).

This option shows that many localities in the province will have a major change in the number of administrative units at the grassroots level, with a reduction of 50% or more. For example, Ke Sach district decreased from 13 to 6 communes; Long Phu, My Xuyen each district from 11 communes and towns is expected to arrange only 4 communes after each district; My Tu district from 9 to 4 communes. In particular, Cu Lao Dung district decreased from 8 communes and towns remaining 2 communes.

According to Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW, dated 12.4.2025 The 11th Conference of the Central Committee of the Party Central Committee XIII, Can Tho City will merge with Soc Trang and Hau Giang province; Take the name of Can Tho City, the Political - Administrative Center is located in Can Tho city today.
