On April 3, in Hanoi, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting of the Government Standing Committee with ministries and branches to assess the situation and discuss immediate and long-term solutions after the US side has just announced the imposition of countervailing taxes on goods from many countries, including Vietnam.
Also attending were Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh; members of the Party Central Committee: Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung; ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, leaders of ministries, branches and agencies.
After listening to the opinions of ministries, branches and Government leaders, the Prime Minister emphasized that the current situation shows that trade competition is more fierce, more complicated and unpredictable.In recent times, Vietnam has made great efforts to implement synchronous and comprehensive solutions in politics, diplomacy, economy, and people-to-people exchanges to respond to the situation.
Vietnam wants the US side to have a policy in accordance with the good relations between the two countries, the desire of the people of both sides and the efforts of Vietnam in recent years, in accordance with the conditions and circumstances of Vietnam, the developing country, still having to continue overcoming heavy consequences, lasting after many years of war.

In the coming time, the Prime Minister requested ministries and branches to be calm, courageous, proactive, flexible, timely, and effective in responding to all developments to continue to overcome difficulties, obstacles, and external shocks as they have done in recent years in the context of the pandemic, conflicts in many places around the world, and disruptions in the supply chain...
Along with directing a number of comprehensive, harmonious, reasonable and effective measures, both immediate and long-term, the Prime Minister requested the establishment of a quick response team on this issue headed by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son.
The head of the Government also assigned Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc to preside over and direct ministries and branches to organize listening to opinions from businesses, including large export businesses.
The Prime Minister emphasized that this is also an opportunity to affirm the nation's courage and strength; an opportunity to restructure the economy towards rapid but sustainable development, greening, digitalization, relying on science and technology, innovation.
At the same time, promote the building of an independent and self-reliant economy associated with extensive, substantial and effective international integration; promote market expansion, diversify markets, products, and supply chains; promote localization; promote domestic market and resource exploitation.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the GDP growth target of 8% or more in 2025 is unchanged.
