To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's Traditional Day for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (May 22, 1946 - May 22, 2026), General Secretary and President To Lam sent a letter to compatriots, soldiers, and forces performing natural disaster prevention and control tasks. Lao Dong Newspaper respectfully introduces the full text of the letter:
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's Traditional Day for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (May 22, 1946 - May 22, 2026), I cordially send to compatriots, soldiers, forces performing natural disaster prevention and control tasks, and collectives and individuals who always accompany for the safety of the People, my affectionate feelings, cordial greetings and best wishes.
Vietnam is a country that is often heavily affected by natural disasters. But throughout the length of building and defending the country, this challenge has nurtured Vietnamese bravery, compassion in adversity, solidarity in difficulty, resilience in the face of loss and always knowing how to overcome challenges together to build a better life.
For eighty years, since President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 70/SL establishing the Central Committee for Dyke Protection, our country's disaster prevention and control work has been constantly improved, making an important contribution to protecting the lives, property, and peaceful life of the people. Under the leadership of the Party, the management of the State, levels, sectors, armed forces, cadres, experts, and people across the country have overcome dangers, proactively prevented, responded, rescued, and overcome the consequences of natural disasters. These great contributions have always been respected, recognized, and highly appreciated by the Party, State, and people.
In the context of climate change, extreme weather, and increasingly complex natural disasters, I call on Party committees, authorities, localities, and the whole society to constantly promote the tradition of solidarity, continue to improve responsibility, innovate thinking, risk management capacity, apply science and technology, consolidate civil defense systems, strengthen forecasting and warning, proactively prevent and respond effectively to natural disasters, build a safe, compassionate, and resilient community, for a sustainable Vietnam.
I believe that promoting the 80-year glorious tradition, the spirit of solidarity and the will to overcome difficulties of the Vietnamese nation, the disaster prevention and control work of our country will become more and more effective, contributing to minimizing losses, improving the resilience of the community, maintaining social stability, building and firmly protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
Wishing compatriots, comrades, soldiers and those working in disaster prevention and control good health, happiness, and peace; continue to maintain the spirit of responsibility, dedication to the people, and excellently complete the noble tasks entrusted by the Party, State and People.
