Prime Minister attends ASEAN - GCC - China Summit

On the afternoon of May 27, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the ASEAN - Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) - China Summit in Malaysia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the ASEAN - GCC - China Summit has the theme "Strengthening economic cohesion for common prosperity".

Speaking at the Conference, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the exchange, enhancement of coordination, and opening up historic opportunities to create new space for strategic cooperation between regions, for a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable future for all of us.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to focus on trade, investment and supply chain linkage cooperation, not politicizing science - technology, investment and development.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister proposed to effectively utilize existing frameworks such as the ASEAN - China Free Trade Agreement, promote the signing of the ASEAN - GCC Free Trade Agreement, and at the same time study and promote inter-regional connectivity into a comprehensive tripartite economic cooperation mechanism, including the possibility of building the ASEAN - GCC - China Free Trade Agreement.

Countries need to work together to create a more open business environment, a more open market, more transparent and stable investment policies, creating a foundation for businesses of all three sides to reach further in the supply chain of goods, services and investment flows.

The Prime Minister proposed to give high priority to strategic and breakthrough sectors. With ASEAN completing the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement, the Prime Minister emphasized that this is the "golden time" to jointly build a connected, safe and sustainable digital space.

The Prime Minister also proposed promoting the connection to the ASEAN Grid, developing and sharing green technology, renewable energy, green hydrogen, developing sustainable agricultural and food systems, including smart agriculture, circular agriculture, ecological agriculture, stable and sustainable food supply chains, including the Halal food industry.

Affirming that capital flows are the lifeline for strong, continuous and sustainable economic development, the Prime Minister proposed to strengthen connectivity between financial centers of the three regions; accordingly, propose a strong financial connection network between major centers of the region such as Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai, Dubai, Riyadh..., forming a smooth, seamless inter-regional financial ecosystem, creating a launching pad for cooperation between the three regions to break through in the future.

The Prime Minister believes that the above orientations will create a premise for the strong development of other sectors such as tourism, cultural exchange, connecting humanities in the three regions, and laying a solid foundation for a future of deep, comprehensive, and long-term cooperation between ASEAN, China and the GCC.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is committed to continuing to promote its role as a bridge of trust, a responsible partner, ready to accompany, contribute to peace, stability and common prosperity for all people and countries of ASEAN, the GCC and China.
