Prime Minister suggests Brunei expand oil, gas and seafood cooperation

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that Brunei continue to facilitate Vietnamese enterprises in cooperating in the oil and gas sector.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on May 27, on the occasion of an official visit to Malaysia, attending the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Kuala Lumpur, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Brunei King Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

At the meeting, the King of Brunei respectfully sent his deepest condolences to the State, Government, people of Vietnam and the family of former President Tran Duc Luong.

The King of Brunei was pleased to see that the relationship between Vietnam and Brunei Darlam has continued to develop well over the past 30 years; hoping to visit Vietnam with the Queen in 2025 to strengthen and enhance friendship and bilateral relations.

Assessing the potential to promote cooperation in the coming time, the King of Brunei said that the two countries still have many surplus and potential that need to be exploited and promoted better such as oil and gas, chemicals, agriculture, seafood, tourism, and Halal food processing.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully thanked the King of Brunei for his deep condolences; and conveyed the condolences of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the King of Brunei.

The Prime Minister affirmed that relevant ministries and branches of Vietnam will actively coordinate with Brunei to prepare in all aspects for the King and Queen's visit to Vietnam in 2025, achieving good and substantial results.

Regarding the orientation of bilateral cooperation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that Brunei continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to cooperate in the fields of oil and gas, chemicals, and food; grant additional licenses to Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen who are allowed to fish for aquatic and seafood in Brunei's waters; and support Vietnam in granting certificates, producing Halal food and taking advantage of Vietnam's rich and abundant raw materials.

On this occasion, the two leaders agreed to continue to effectively implement the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership for the 2023-2027 period, increase contact and exchange at all levels and promote people-to-people exchanges, contributing to creating momentum and deepening bilateral relations in the coming time.
