Thanh Hà |

This is the 7th time Vietnam has been invited to attend the G20 Summit.

On the morning of November 22 (local time, afternoon of the same day according to Hanoi time), Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh began attending official activities within the framework of the G20 Summit held in December, South Africa.

Starting the conference program, at the Nasrec Expo Conference Center, leaders of the South African G20 Chair country presided over the welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and heads of government of countries.

According to the program, on November 22, the Prime Minister will join leaders of countries in attending the opening session, speaking at the first discussion session and attending the second discussion session of the conference. Within the framework of the conference, the Prime Minister will have many bilateral contacts with leaders of countries and international organizations.

Previously, at the meeting on November 21, President Cyril Ramaphosa respectfully thanked and warmly welcomed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the G20 Summit, demonstrating Vietnam's solidarity and active support for South Africa, affirming that South Africa always considers Vietnam a traditional close friend and South Africa's leading important partner in Asia.

Thanking the President of South Africa for inviting Vietnam to attend the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that with the role, position and experience of South Africa, the conference will be a great success, promoting the participation of countries, including developing countries in global governance for peace, cooperation, stability and development.

The 2025 G20 Summit is scheduled to take place from November 22-23, with the participation of leaders of G20 member countries, guest countries, such as Egypt, Portugal, Denmark, the Netherlands, Ireland, Malaysia, Norway, New Zealand, Nigeria, Finland, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Vietnam, the UAE and representatives of leaders of 23 international and regional organizations.

Vietnam has been invited to attend the G20 Summit 6 times, participating in a number of cooperation initiatives within the G20 framework, thereby contributing to the common efforts to solve global challenges.

Within the framework of the 2024 G20 Summit in Brazil, Vietnam participated in founding the Global Alliance to Fight Poverty and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed 3 strategic guarantees for the global poverty eradication.

This is the second consecutive year that Vietnam has been invited to attend the G20 Summit even though it does not take on the positions of chair/host of multilateral mechanisms. This is a strong affirmation of Vietnam's increasingly high prestige, position and role, the recognition and appreciation of partners, especially the G20, for Vietnam's development achievements and substantial contributions and responsibility in common world issues.
