On the afternoon of September 29, 2025, at the Government headquarters, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1975-2025), Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a phone call with German Federal Republic Prime Minister Friedrich Merz to discuss measures to promote the increasingly substantial, effective and comprehensive development of the Vietnam - Germany Strategic Partnership.
At the phone call, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was pleased to note that after 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, Germany is a leading partner in trade and investment; emphasizing that Vietnam always attaches importance to strengthening and developing strategic partnerships with Germany in all fields. The Prime Minister suggested that Germany continue to coordinate effectively in implementing the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), soon ratify the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), create more favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to expand investment and business cooperation; make science, technology and innovation a new pillar in bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Friedrich Merz expressed his impression of Vietnam's development potential and growing position in the region and the world; highly appreciated the great results that Vietnam has achieved in recent times in all fields as well as Vietnam's issuance of many important resolutions to promote socio-economic development, science and technology, and innovation.
Prime Minister Merz affirmed that Germany attaches importance to the Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and wishes to continue expanding cooperation with Vietnam in strategic areas such as green economy, energy transition, circular economy, supporting industry and logistics services, etc.
Prime Minister Merz also sent his condolences on the storm and flood situation and the recovery of the consequences of the current storm and flood in Vietnam
In a sincere, frank and confident atmosphere, the two Prime Ministers expressed their satisfaction with the positive developments in the bilateral relationship in recent times, especially in the fields of economy - trade - investment, science - technology, energy transition, education and training and labor...
The two sides agreed to soon upgrade bilateral relations to a higher level, continue to increase exchanges of high-level delegations, promote the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, and promote the establishment of joint working groups in the fields of economy, politics, and labor.
The two Prime Ministers agreed to further promote cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, green finance, renewable energy, digital transformation and sustainable development, supporting industries, digital economy, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, transportation, etc.
The two Prime Ministers also agreed to continue to closely coordinate within the framework of ASEAN-EU relations as well as at international and regional forums.
The two sides also discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern; affirmed their stance in supporting the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of international law; emphasized the role of international cooperation and regional linkages for peace, stability and sustainable development.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the German side continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Germany to stabilize their lives, integrate into the host society, actively contribute to the development of the host country as well as the friendly relations between the two countries; at the same time, promote cooperation programs for vocational training and high-tech labor recruitment from Vietnam to Germany, in line with the needs of the labor market of both sides.
On this occasion, the two Prime Ministers respectfully invited each other to conduct official visits at an appropriate time, in order to continue discussing measures to strengthen and improve the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation.
