Prime Minister supports Japanese corporation to soon start construction of Hanoi Northern Smart City

The Prime Minister supported the Japanese corporation to start construction of the Northern Smart City of Hanoi with projects to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.

On the afternoon of July 22, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Yukihito Honda - CEO of the Diversified Urban Development block of Sumitomo Group (Japan).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated Sumitomo Group's investment projects in Vietnam; said that the group's projects in Vietnam are large-scale, have a widespread impact on socio-economic development in localities with the group's projects in particular and Vietnam in general, contributing to promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Japan. In particular, industrial parks invested by the group attracted 6 billion USD in investment and created jobs for more than 90,000 workers.

Affirming that Vietnam - Japan economic relations are unlimited, the Prime Minister suggested that with its prestige and financial potential, Sumitomo Group continue to expand investment activities in Vietnam with faster and more effective implementation progress, especially in areas where the group has strengths such as infrastructure, finance, real estate, transportation, railways, electronics, chemicals, high-tech agriculture, industrial parks, smart cities, logistics, digital transformation, green transformation, etc.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that the group will become a strategic investor, actively contributing to the Vietnamese economy, promoting green growth and a circular economy.

Mr. Yukihito Honda said that Sumitomo Group is participating in a joint venture to invest in the Northern Hanoi Smart City Project; invest in industrial parks in Hanoi, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri; participate in the construction of EPC for the railway project in urban area No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City; the 1,320 MW Van Phong I BOT thermal power project has come into operation...

The Executive Director of the Diversified Urban Development Block of Sumitomo Group proposed that the Prime Minister continue to direct ministries, branches and localities to support the group in implementing existing projects; at the same time, support the group in investing in the Van Phong 2 Power Plant Project.

Welcoming Sumitomo Group's interest in new investment projects in Vietnam, including Thanh Hoa Industrial Park Project, Northern Smart City of Hanoi..., Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Government, ministries, branches and localities will support and create all favorable conditions for Japanese enterprises in general and Sumitomo Group in particular to implement effective and sustainable business investment activities in Vietnam in the direction of publicity, transparency, reduction of administrative procedures and compliance with legal regulations.

In particular, the Prime Minister supported Sumitomo Group to closely coordinate with Hanoi to build a modern, civilized Northern Smart City of Hanoi, with the cultural identity of Japan and Vietnam; strive to start construction with works and projects to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.

Regarding the Van Phong 2 Power Plant Project, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to study and respond to the proposal of Sumitomo Group related to the VIII Power Plan; requested the group to closely coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to soon have a response on the project.
