On August 27, at the Presidential Office Headquarters, General Secretary and President To Lam received Mr. Cristiano Amon, Chairman and CEO of Qualcomm Group (USA), on the occasion of Mr. Amon's visit and working in Vietnam.
At the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam is transitioning to a self-reliant, innovative, sustainable and integrated development model, in which science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and national artificial intelligence are identified as the main driving forces, prioritizing investment attraction associated with technology transfer, development, and training of high-quality human resources; affirming that Vietnam welcomes and will continue to create favorable conditions for leading technology corporations in the world, including US enterprises, to invest, research, develop and cooperate long-term in Vietnam.
The General Secretary and President welcomed Mr. Cristiano Amon's return to Vietnam, acknowledged and highly appreciated Qualcomm's expansion of operations, research and development (R&D) investment, innovation support and technology ecosystem development in Vietnam over the past 20 years, including the establishment of a R&D Center in Hanoi and the implementation of cooperation with leading technology enterprises of Vietnam such as Viettel and VinSmart.
The General Secretary and President welcomed Qualcomm for positioning Vietnam at a high position in the Group's development strategy in Asia in the direction of making Vietnam an important R&D center in the Group's global network; believing that this is in line with the direction of strengthening scientific, technological and innovation cooperation between Vietnam and the US within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The General Secretary and President requested Qualcomm to continue to expand long-term investment in Vietnam in areas where the Group has strengths such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, robots, 5G/6G, data centers and new generation connectivity technologies; strengthen technology transfer, share management experience, expand cooperation with domestic businesses, universities and research institutes; support Vietnamese businesses to improve technological capacity, participate more deeply in the value chain and global technology supply chain.
Thanking the General Secretary and President for taking the time to receive the delegation; Mr. Cristiano Amon affirmed that Qualcomm considers Vietnam an increasingly important technology market and center in Asia and is aiming to build Vietnam into the Group's third largest AI research and development center globally.
With more than 100 billion USD invested in R&D globally, Qualcomm wishes to promote core technology capacity, research networks and international partner ecosystems to expand cooperation in Vietnam in the fields of AI, semiconductor, 5G/6G, connected computing and new generation technology infrastructure; Expressed its desire to continue to expand cooperation, investment and long-term presence in Vietnam; strengthen coordination with agencies, businesses, research institutes and universities in research, training high-quality human resources, technology transfer and development of new generation technologies; and contribute to the process of building a semiconductor, artificial intelligence and innovation ecosystem of Vietnam in the coming time.
