On the evening of July 30, at the request of Malaysia, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a phone call with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Malaysian Prime Minister updated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on a number of measures taken by Malaysia as ASEAN Chair to resolve the tensions at the Cambodia - Thailand border; emphasizing Malaysia's policy of promoting dialogue and ensuring solidarity and unity in resolving the issue of border tensions between the two countries.
Continue to call on both sides to restrain themselves, not use force, peacefully and adequately resolve disagreements on the basis of the fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the South East Asia Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the two Prime Ministers' regular phone calls to promptly coordinate and share information on issues of mutual concern, demonstrating increasingly high political trust between the two countries in general and between senior leaders of both sides in particular in the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed his regards and best wishes to General Secretary To Lam; Politburo member, President Luong Cuong; Politburo member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Malaysia personally as ASEAN Chairmen in promoting the resolution of the border tension between Cambodia and Thailand; especially the meeting between the Cambodian Prime Minister and the Thai Prime Minister on July 28 and the ceasefire agreement, which is the first positive step to help control the escalation of the conflict between the two countries.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always supports and is ready to participate in ASEAN's efforts in general and coordinate with the Malaysia President in particular in resolving regional issues and maintaining internal solidarity; is ready to send representatives to participate in ASEAN-led mechanisms to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand as proposed by the Malaysian President and pay attention to providing humanitarian assistance to the people of the two countries.
Discussing bilateral cooperation, the two Prime Ministers agreed to continue exchanging, enhancing trust, and coordinating measures to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on promoting cooperation in innovation, science and technology, energy, and power transmission between Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore to form the ASEAN power grid; soon signing an Agreement on rice trade to help Vietnam ensure food security for Malaysia.
The two Prime Ministers also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including trade and tariffs with other countries, for peace, stability and prosperity of the two countries, of the region and the world.
