At the invitation of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and his wife, President of the Federal Republic of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing and his wife paid an official visit to Vietnam from September 4 to 6, 2026.
On the morning of September 5th in Hanoi, the official welcoming ceremony for Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing and his wife was solemnly held.
General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife chaired the welcoming ceremony.
In the sound of welcoming military music, the two leaders and the two ladies moved towards the podium of honor. The two leaders then stepped onto the podium of honor together. The military music successively sang the national anthems of the two countries. After the national anthems ended, the Captain of the Honorary Team of the Vietnam People's Army proceeded to report and invited to review the formation.
General Secretary and President To Lam and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing review the guard of honor, then successively introduce officials of the two countries to attend the welcoming ceremony. Immediately after the official welcoming ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing.
This is the first official visit to Vietnam by President Min Aung Hlaing since Myanmar completed the General Election in January 2026 and formed a new Government in April 2026.
Vietnam and Myanmar established diplomatic relations on May 28, 1975, and upgraded to Comprehensive Partnership in August 2017.
The visit takes place in the context of Vietnam - Myanmar relations developing well, contributing to creating new momentum to bring the Vietnam - Myanmar Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation relationship to become increasingly substantive and effective, bringing benefits to the people of the two countries.
The visit affirmed that Vietnam consistently implements a foreign policy of peace, cooperation, development, multilateralization, diversification of foreign relations, promoting relations with traditional friendly countries, valuing relations with Myanmar, valuing the central role of ASEAN and the concerns of ASEAN member countries, for peace, stability, and development in the region, for a united, unified, and self-reliant ASEAN community.
