On April 29, at the National Monument, by the Ben Hai River - Hien Luong historical bridge, Quang Tri province solemnly organized the Flag Raising Ceremony, the "Reunification of the Country" Festival to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South, national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2026).
Attending the program were General Secretary and President To Lam; Party and State leaders; leaders of central departments, ministries, and branches; provincial leaders and a large number of people and tourists inside and outside the province.

At the ceremony, the history of the Ben Hai River and Hien Luong Bridge was recalled. After the 1954 Geneva Accords, the Ben Hai River at the 17th parallel became a temporary military boundary. Due to the conspiracies and sabotage actions of the US imperialists and their henchmen, the Agreement was not implemented, the country was divided for 21 years, with the pain of "two rivers, two halves, two regions of the Fatherland".
In that context, Quang Tri and the army and people of the whole country fought bravely, defeating war strategies, firmly protecting the border lines, and preventing plots to expand the war to the North. Under the rain of bombs and bullets, the flag on the Hien Luong flagpole still flew, becoming a symbol of unity. From that spirit, many feats associated with Quang Tri Citadel, Vinh Moc Tunnels, Gianh Ferry Terminal, and Road 20 Quyet Thang were established.

The war has receded, but heroic memories are still intact. Hien Luong - Ben Hai has become a sacred symbol of the aspiration for peace and national reunification.
In the sacred moment, the national anthem was played, those present at the foot of the flagpole were silent, looking towards the national flag being raised to the top of the Hien Luong flagpole. When the flag flew on top of the flagpole, delegates and people respectfully remembered President Ho Chi Minh; expressed gratitude to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroic Martyrs, families of people with meritorious services, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers and compatriots and soldiers nationwide.

Preaching a speech at the ceremony, Quang Tri Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Van Phuong emphasized that the Flag Raising Ceremony - the "Reunification of the Country" Festival is an opportunity to review the historical journey, honor the immortal feats, and express gratitude for the sacrifices of previous generations. Quang Tri today, from a land of fire, is rising to develop, with many potentials and advantages. The province has achieved many important results, aiming to become a new economic growth pole of the Central region.
Promoting revolutionary tradition, the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Tri continue to uphold their determination to build an increasingly developed homeland. Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee affirmed that the presence of the General Secretary, President and leaders is a great source of encouragement, adding faith for the locality to rise up.
Also on the morning of April 29, General Secretary and President To Lam and the working delegation of the Central Government and leaders of Quang Tri province came to offer flowers and incense to commemorate General Vo Nguyen Giap's tomb in Phu Trach commune; offered flowers and incense to express gratitude to heroic martyrs at the Special National Relic Site Gianh Ferry Terminal, Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery.
