The statement of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 7 said that, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, President of the Great Indonesian Movement Party ( Gerindra) Prabowo Subianto, ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn and Singapore Prime Minister, General Secretary of the Singapore People's Action Party (PAP) Lawrence Wong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and his wife will pay a state visit to the Republic of Indonesia, an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat and an official visit to the Republic of Singapore from March 9 to 13, 2025.
Vietnam - Indonesia established relations in 1955 and established a Strategic Partnership in 2013. The two sides maintain regular and flexible contact.
In 2024, President Joko Widodo paid an official visit to Vietnam (January 11-13), Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi co-chaired the 5th session of the Vietnam - Indonesia Bilateral Cooperation Committee (November 24), President-elect Prabowo Subianto visited and worked in Vietnam (September 13-14), Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan attended the inauguration ceremony of President of Indonesia (October 19-21), President Luong Cuong met with President Prabowo Subianto on the occasion of attending the APEC 2024 Summit Week (November 15), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with President Prabowo Subianto on the occasion of attending the G20 Summit (November 18).
Vietnam officially joined ASEAN on July 28, 1995, on the occasion of the 28th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Brunei, becoming the 7th member of ASEAN. Over the past 30 years, Vietnam has made contributions demonstrating its active and responsible role in ASEAN, contributing to building a united, unified ASEAN with a voice in the international arena.
The official visit to Singapore by General Secretary To Lam and his wife took place in the context of the Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Partnership developing well. From 2022 to present, there have been 7 exchanges of high-level leaders between the two countries. In February 2023, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife successfully visited Singapore, in which the two sides signed an agreement on establishing a Digital Economy - Green Economy Partnership.
In August 2023, Singaporean Prime Minister Li Hien Long and his wife also had an official visit to Vietnam with many substantial results, including the two sides agreeing to consider and soon upgrade the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at an appropriate time.
Most recently, General Secretary To Lam held a phone call with the Prime Minister and General Secretary of the PAP Party Lawrence Wong (December 20, 2024).
At the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits in Laos (October 2024), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also held an annual meeting for the first time to discuss bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern.
