According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam welcomed Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and the New Zealand high-ranking delegation to pay an official visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1975 - 2025). The General Secretary thanked Prime Minister Luxon for his good statements about Vietnam and the relationship between the two countries, and highly appreciated New Zealand's foreign policy of always attaching importance to the Southeast Asian region.
The General Secretary was pleased to see the trustworthy development of Vietnam - New Zealand political relations as a foundation for the two countries to strengthen comprehensive cooperation in all fields. The General Secretary highly appreciated the results of the talks between the two Prime Ministers, especially the issuance of the Joint Statement to upgrade Vietnam - New Zealand relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, demonstrating remarkable development and deep strategic trust between the two countries, creating a solid framework to bring the bilateral relationship into a new stage of development.
The General Secretary assessed the active development of defense and security cooperation, clearly demonstrating the responsibility of the two countries for peace and stability in the region; suggested that in the coming time, the two countries continue to promote economic and trade cooperation, and propose specific strategies to strengthen connectivity between the two economies. The General Secretary also highly appreciated New Zealand as a country with an advanced and modern administrative and governance foundation, economy, science and technology and education, which are areas that Vietnam is in great need of in the development process.
The General Secretary thanked the Government of New Zealand for supporting the grant of scholarships to Vietnamese students; shared that New Zealand is becoming a trusted and favorite destination for Vietnamese students to choose to study and research; emphasized that educational cooperation has contributed to strengthening and deepening the friendship between the people of the two countries.

The New Zealand Prime Minister congratulated and expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements; and believed that under the wise leadership of the General Secretary and leaders of Vietnam, Vietnam will successfully achieve the goal of becoming a developed country by 2045.
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon respectfully thanked the General Secretary for his affection and concern for New Zealand in particular and the Vietnam - New Zealand relationship in general; expressed his emotion at the warm welcome that the Party, Government and people of Vietnam have given to the Prime Minister personally as well as the New Zealand delegation.
Prime Minister Luxon emphasized that with its strengths, New Zealand wishes to accompany and support Vietnam in achieving socio-economic development goals in the coming time; expressed his willingness to welcome more Vietnamese students, scientists and researchers to New Zealand for study and research.
The Prime Minister of Luxon also hopes to further promote tourism, trade and investment cooperation, connecting the business community.
The two leaders expressed agreement on the directions for developing relations in the new period; believed that the new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework would bring great common benefits, contributing to peace and development in the region and the world.
