On the morning of September 15, in Hanoi, the General Department of Industry, Ministry of National Defense solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the General Department of Defense Industry (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025) and received the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces (the second time).
General Secretary To Lam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission attended and gave a speech at the Commemoration Ceremony.
Speaking at the Ceremony, Lieutenant General Ho Quang Tuan - Director of the General Department of Defense Industry - said that on September 15, 1945, just a few days after the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh and the Party Central Committee issued an Ordinance to establish the Military Department, under the Ministry of National Defense (the predecessor of today's General Department of Defense Industry).
With a long tradition, the General Department of Defense Industry has actively overcome difficulties and challenges, implementing 2 strategic tasks: Developing defense production and participating in production to build the country's economy.
Entering the period of innovation, the Vietnam Military and the General Department of Defense Industry today continue to receive special attention from the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and the General Department of Defense Industry have quickly transformed management mechanisms, determined appropriate roadmaps and steps; attached importance to developing human resources, scientific and technological resources, and mobilized the maximum achievements of the national industry to serve the Defense Industry; focused on investing in spearhead products with advanced and modern technology; increased dual-use in development investment; closely combining defense production with the economy.
In the past 5 years alone, officers, soldiers and workers of the General Department have successfully completed orders to produce more than 140 types of military weapons and military weapons; built nearly 140 new ships and repaired over 380 military ships of all kinds... in a timely manner to meet the requirements of the military's equipment, training, and combat readiness tasks, serving important national and international events.
In the field of scientific research, overcoming especially difficult conditions in accessing documents on technology design for arms production, the General Department has focused on breakthroughs in 5 main directions: Developing new technical equipment and weapons; repairing and modernizing technical equipment and weapons; manufacturing technical materials; improving product quality; applying new technology, modernizing production lines.
After 80 years of construction, fighting and development, the General Department of Defense Industry has achieved many great achievements, typically: Building a team of highly qualified officers, workers and employees who master advanced science and technology.
Producing, repairing and improving many types of weapons and modern technical equipment to meet the requirements of the Army's training and combat readiness tasks.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary To Lam presented the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to the General Department of Defense Industry, Ministry of National Defense for its outstanding achievements in researching, producing, and repairing high-tech weapons and equipment of the new generation, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
