According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the invitation of Politburo member and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong, President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and his wife will pay a state visit to Vietnam from May 25 to 27, 2025.
Vietnam and France established diplomatic relations on April 12, 1973; before that, France opened a representative office in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam after the Geneva Agreement in 1954 as a Delegation.
The extensive history of relations and cooperation in all fields has created a solid foundation for promoting bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations (2013).
In October 2024, General Secretary and President To Lam paid an official visit to France and the two countries issued a Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam - France relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; France became the first EU country to have the highest level of relations with Vietnam.
Vietnam and France maintain many diverse bilateral cooperation mechanisms, closely coordinate and support each other at international forums and organizations.
