On the morning of May 4, President of the Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayaka arrived in Hanoi, starting a state visit to Vietnam and attending the United Nations Buddha's handvest festival on May 4-6 at the invitation of Politburo member and President Luong Cuong.
According to VNA, welcoming President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong; Deputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Nong Thi Ha; Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam; Sri Lanese Ambassador to Vietnam Perera Wewala Appuhamillage Udam Poshitha.
Accompanying Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka on state visits to Vietnam were Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Tourism Vijitha Herath; Sri Lankan Ambassador to Vietnam Poshitha Perera; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of East Asia political cooperation Shashikala premawardhana; Director of the Department of New Rites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Madhuka Wickramarachchi; Assistant to President Mud Nanayakkara.
Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayaka is President and Minister of National Defense, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Minister of Digital Economy of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka was born in 1968, in Dewahoowa, Matale, Sri Lanka. He has a Bachelor of Science from Kelaniya University.
From 2021-2024, he will be the President, leader of the People's Liberation Front (JVP), the core of the ruling coalition of the National People's Power Party (NPP).
Vietnam and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations on July 21, 70. The two countries have a traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation.
Political parties in Sri Lanka sympathize and attach importance to the relationship with Vietnam, considering Vietnam a successful model in economic development for Sri Lanka to learn from. Sri Lanka has recognized Vietnam as having a full market economy.
The visit took place on the occasion of Vietnam and Sri Lanka to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1970-2025), which is an opportunity for the two sides to look back on cooperative relations after more than 5 decades of formation and development, thereby proposing directions and measures to consolidate and develop friendly and cooperative relations in the context of the new situation, in accordance with the interests of the two countries, and to develop in the same area, to contribute to the common, peaceful development in the area.
