At the 20th session (special session) of the People's Council of Vinh City, term XXII, 2021 - 2026, held on April 25, delegates voted to pass a resolution on merging wards and communes in the area. Accordingly, Vinh City will reduce from 33 wards and communes to 6 wards, with the names respectively: Vinh 1, Vinh 2, Vinh 3, Vinh 4, Vinh 5 and Cua Lo.
However, implementing the direction of the Steering Committee of Nghe An province, Vinh city has proactively studied the plan to name new wards in the direction of encouraging the use of names with traditional, cultural and historical elements instead of the method of deciding in order.
On April 29, the Standing Committee of Vinh City Party Committee held a meeting of the City Party Committee to discuss this content. After the conference, a number of proposed naming options were proposed to collect public opinions including: Vinh - Yen Truong, Thanh Vinh, Vinh Hung, Vinh Phu, Vinh Loc and Cua Lo.
Because the new ward name plan "Vinh - Yen Truong" received many disagreements, Vinh City Party Committee later adjusted and changed the plan to "Truong Vinh" ward - showing openness and accepting the people's opinions.
According to Vinh City Party Committee, historically, Vinh City today is located mainly on Vinh Yen and Yen Truong land, belonging to Ngo Truong commune, Chan Loc district, and the old Nghe An town.
The name "Truong Vinh" is the continuation and inheritance of history; A transition of a name that has been ingrained in the cultural subconscious of the people of the city, contributing to preserving the values of the existing Vinh City, and sending the desire of a long -lasting, prosperous and developing land in the future.
On May 3, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Phan Duc Dong - Secretary of Vinh City Party Committee - said: "The study of the plan to name new wards after the city arrangement has been carried out methodically, cautiously, in compliance with current regulations and instructions of the Provincial Party Committee, listening to and respecting the opinions of experts, intellectuals and people. We hope that people will share and agree.
The naming of administrative units is an issue related to the history, identity and solidarity of the community. The receptive, objective attitude and respect for opinions of Vinh City government are expected to contribute to creating high consensus in the process of organizing and rearranging administrative units in the area.
