The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on December 10, 2024, within the framework of his visit to China and co-chairing the 16th meeting of the Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met with Vice President of the People's Republic of China Han Zheng.
At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam always considers developing relations with China a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification of foreign relations; highly appreciating the positive development trend and important results of the relations between the two Parties and the two countries in recent times.
Vice President Han Zheng affirmed that China attaches great importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the Community of Shared Future with Vietnam, always considering this a priority direction in China's neighborly diplomacy, supporting Vietnam in carrying out the cause of Renovation, industrialization, modernization of the country, and successfully building socialism.
The two sides agreed to strengthen direction at all levels, sectors and localities of the two countries to closely coordinate and actively implement high-level agreements and common perceptions, contributing to further deepening the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the Community of Shared Future of strategic significance.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son proposed to continue to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels; promote cooperation in all fields, especially connecting development strategies, connecting transport infrastructure, economic-trade cooperation, investment, culture, education, and tourism. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides prioritize accelerating the implementation of three standard gauge railway lines connecting Vietnam with China (Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong, Lang Son - Hanoi, Mong Cai - Ha Long - Hai Phong); request China to continue to expand the import of Vietnamese goods; encourage reputable enterprises to invest in large-scale, high-quality, modern technology projects, representing China's development level.
The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that the two sides coordinate well in implementing activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year 2025, and actively promote the traditional friendship between the two countries.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides strictly implement high-level agreements and common perceptions on maritime issues; increase common points, narrow differences, respect each other's legitimate and legal rights and interests, in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Expressing his approval and appreciation for the opinions and proposals of Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, Vice President Han Zheng emphasized that China is willing to work with Vietnam to maintain strategic exchanges between high-level leaders and all levels, promote further deepening of substantive cooperation in all fields, and continuously deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future of strategic significance.
Vice President Han Zheng affirmed that China supports Vietnam in successfully organizing the 14th National Party Congress, enhancing transport infrastructure connectivity, promoting cooperation in tourism, education and training, achieving new records in trade relations and promoting multilateral cooperation; and supporting Vietnam to successfully host APEC 2027.
Vice President Han Zheng also suggested that the two sides increase people-to-people exchanges, consolidate the foundation of public opinion, better control and resolve disagreements at sea, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
