The beginning of the era of independence and freedom
80 years ago, on September 2, 1945, in front of tens of thousands of compatriots at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence - the great national founding document - giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam).
The immortal words of the Declaration of Independence are not only a declaration of the abolition of colonial and feudal domination, but also a strong demonstration of the nation's will to sacrifice to protect the right to life and freedom. This is an important milestone, affirming the nation's aspiration for independence, peace, freedom and prosperity.
As affirmed by Professor, Dr. Phung Huu Phu - former Permanent Vice President of the Central Theoretical Council: In our country, the birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1930 led to the glorious victory of the August Revolution in 1945, opening a new era - the glorious Ho Chi Minh era, beginning the era of independence and freedom.
Historical turning point with the renovation
For 30 years, from 1945 to 1975, our entire Party, people and army focused on implementing two major contents of the first era of the Vietnamese Revolution: winning and maintaining independence and freedom for the Fatherland and preparing the initial premise for the second era.
In 1975, the country was unified, but emerging from the flames of war, our country had to face countless difficulties. The 6th Party Congress in 1986 marked a historic turning point in the Doi Moi process. From here, the country entered the second era - the era of unification and innovation.
From a centrally planned economy, Vietnam transformed itself into a socialist-oriented market economy, opening up to international integration. The World Bank report called “Vietnam a development success story”. The Doi Moi process helped Vietnam develop from one of the poorest countries in the world to a lower middle-income country in just one generation.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education Ta Van Ha analyzed that from a poor and backward country, up to now, the scale of our economy has been constantly expanding, with GDP in 2023 reaching about 430 billion USD. By 2023, GDP per capita will be 4,300 USD and by the end of 2024, this number will be even higher.
Vietnam has been out of the group of low-income countries since 2008 and is expected to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030 (about 7,500 USD). Previously an isolated country, Vietnam now has diplomatic relations with 193 countries that are members of the United Nations.
“These achievements not only affirm Vietnam's position, but also demonstrate its strong aspiration to rise up and contribute to peace and sustainable development of the world,” Mr. Ta Van Ha emphasized.
The beginning of a new era - the era of national growth
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Trong Lam - Director, Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House Truth, the results achieved after nearly 40 years of renovation are the foundation and important conditions for Vietnam to realize its strategic vision, entering a new era, the era of national growth.
The new era, the era of the Vietnamese people's rise, is the era of development, the era of prosperity under the leadership and rule of the Communist Party, successfully building a socialist Vietnam, a rich people, a strong country, democracy, equality, civilization, on par with the world powers. All people have a prosperous and happy life, are supported to develop and enrich themselves; contribute more and more to the peace, stability, development of the world, the happiness of humanity and global civilization.
As concluded by Mr. Lai Xuan Mon - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department - at the National Scientific Conference "New Era, the Era of Rising of the Vietnamese Nation - Theoretical and Practical Issues": We agree to determine the starting point of the new era as the 14th National Party Congress, the time when we successfully complete the renovation process after 40 years of persistent work and creativity and achieve great achievements; the foundation, potential, position, and international prestige are clearly raised; Vietnam's development space and potential still have many advantages and strengths.
