From the turning point of 1986
The 6th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (held from December 15 to 18, 1986) is considered one of the most important historical milestones in the modern Vietnamese revolutionary process. In the context of the country facing a deep socio-economic crisis, high inflation, stagnant production and difficult people's lives, the Party decided to initiate the Comprehensive Renovation campaign, which is affirmed as a bold strategy to open up new thinking and actions in building the country.

14th Congress - A milestone opening a new stage of development
In 40 years of implementing Doi Moi, Vietnam has gone from a "slight step" to a stage of deep integration and maturity in the international arena. The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (held from January 19 to 23, 2026) takes place in the context of the 40th anniversary of Doi Moi, and is also an opportunity to summarize and evaluate the results of the implementation of the Party's Resolutions and determine strategic orientations for the next stage.
The 14th Congress not only selected senior personnel but also shaped a long-term development vision, affirming the determination to make Vietnam a developed country with high income by 2045. This is a comprehensive strategic goal, requiring a fundamental shift in growth quality, competitiveness and international position.
One of the key contents of the XIV Congress is building a strong economy based on science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, narrowing the gap with advanced economies. The Congress also sets the goal of developing modern infrastructure, strengthening regional connectivity and building digital infrastructure. In parallel with that is promoting green growth, transforming sustainable production models to respond to climate change and environmental challenges.
The orientation of developing high-quality human resources is emphasized: improving the quality of education and training, strengthening professional skills, research and scientific innovation. This is to meet the requirements of a knowledge economy, creating a foundation for sustainable long-term growth.
The XIV Congress identified the task of strengthening the leadership role of the Party, building a clean and strong Party, through effective inspection and supervision mechanisms and improving organizational discipline. The innovation of socio-political institutions is considered a key factor in creating stability in the development process.
Along with that, administrative reform and improving the efficiency of state governance are key to creating a favorable environment for production, business and investment attraction. This process is closely linked to the development of a modern, transparent and effective rule-of-law state.
One of the highlights throughout the draft documents of the XIV Congress is the development thinking based on national aspirations and long-term vision. Our Party not only sets the goal of economic growth but also emphasizes the requirement for comprehensive and harmonious development between economy - society - environment, between material growth and social progress. The goals to 2030 and vision to 2045 are clearly defined, inheriting previous achievements, and at the same time updating new highlights suitable to the context of the times.
Establishing a new growth model, taking science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as the main driving forces is an important factor for Vietnam to move towards a new era of development. At the same time, private economic development will be an important driving force. The Party also determined that it is necessary to improve the development institution, implement synchronously important transformations: digital transformation, green transformation, energy transformation, and human resource structure transformation.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Trong Lam, Director of the National Political Publishing House Truth, said that the new era of the Vietnamese nation is not only a stage of economic development, but also an era of "reaching out" to build a socialist Vietnam, a rich people, a strong country, democratic, fair, and civilized, on par with the five continental powers. This is the crystallization of national will and aspirations, as well as a practical condition for Vietnam to develop sustainably and make positive contributions to the cause of peace, stability and development of the world.
More importantly, the'era of rise' is not just a political message but the crystallization of national aspirations and real conditions. It is a new era of development, in which Vietnam not only keeps up, but strives to stand shoulder to shoulder with developed countries, not only integrating but also making positive contributions to global issues," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Trong Lam said.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Hoai Son, a full-time member of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Society, commented: "The 14th National Congress is not only important in consolidating the people's trust in the Party, but also clearly affirms the country's development goals and political determination in organizing implementation. "The 14th National Congress is the opening of a new space for thinking, new development methods and new action determination of the Party.
