Vietnam - Algeria upgrades relations to Strategic Partnership

Vietnam - Algeria upgraded bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, affirming that they will continue to promote the strengthening and exchange of delegations at high and all levels.

On November 19, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, within the framework of his official visit to Algeria, held talks with Algeria Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb.

Prime Minister Pham Minh himself affirmed that after more than six decades of friendly cooperation, Vietnam always remembers Algeria's support and assistance in the past struggle for national liberation and in the current cause of national construction and development.

The Prime Minister expressed his emotion and pride in the special affection that the people of Algeria have for Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh when his name was given to two major major major highways in the capital Algiers and the province of Oran.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully conveyed the greetings and congratulations of General Secretary To Lam and Vietnamese leaders to Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb.

Prime Minister Algeria Sifi Ghrieb emphasized that the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is a visit shaping bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb expressed his delight at the strong developments in the relationship between the two countries in different fields.

At the talks, the two sides informed each other about the situation in each country and exchanged directions and specific measures to promote traditional relations and friendly cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria as well as exchanged on international issues.

The Algeria Prime Minister affirmed the determination of the Algeria Government, under the direction of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in maintaining and further promoting the traditional relationship and friendly cooperation between the two countries, which have been nurtured in the history of the joint struggle for independence and freedom of the two peoples.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Algeria on many great achievements in building a "new Algeria" with comprehensive economic, cultural and social development, with an increasingly important position and role in the international arena and emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship and solidarity and close brotherhood between the two countries.

In that spirit, the two sides agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, affirming that they will continue to promote the strengthening and exchange of delegations at high and all levels to strengthen the political foundation and mutual understanding as well as expand cooperation in many other areas through existing cooperation mechanisms.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides promote cooperation in defense and security, participate in mutual defense exhibitions, cooperate in cyber security; promote cooperation in agriculture.

Along with that, the two sides will continue to organize many cultural and educational exchanges and historical traditions to honor previous generations, further strengthening friendship and close solidarity.

The two sides agreed to continue to coordinate and support each other in multilateral forums of which Vietnam and Algeria are both members, enhancing the role and position of developing countries, enhancing cooperation between developing countries in science - technology, digital transformation and new development areas.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully invited Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam

Immediately after the talks, the two Prime Ministers adopted a Joint Statement on upgrading bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, and witnessed the signing of cooperation documents, including: Minutes of the meeting of the Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
