Within the framework of the State visit to India, on the afternoon of May 6 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam delivered a policy speech at the Council on World Affairs of India with the theme "Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Strengthening in the New Era: Sharing Vision, Strategic Convergence, Substantive Cooperation".
General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the connecting threads, sharing vision, and strategic convergence are solid foundations for Vietnam and India to promote cooperation, effectively contribute to each country's development journey in the new era, and at the same time contribute to shaping the regional and international environment towards greater stability and sustainability.
The General Secretary and President wished the two sides to further consolidate and deepen strategic trust - a condition for maintaining stable relations, as well as a foundation for promoting effective cooperation and jointly responding to common challenges.
In the new period, the two sides need to continue to strengthen comprehensive exchanges in all channels - between the State, National Assembly/Parliament, political parties, people of the two countries and levels, both central and local; expand cooperation in strategic fields; need to further promote and improve the effectiveness of action, coordinate positions in multilateral forums.
The two sides expand connectivity space, increase development connectivity, and create more momentum for regional linkages. Vietnam is ready to cooperate in pharmaceuticals with India, and welcomes Indian pharmaceutical companies to invest in pharmaceutical production in Vietnam for the Southeast Asian market.
The two sides elevate and accelerate scientific cooperation, innovation and strategic technology to become an important pillar in Vietnam-India cooperation relations. Vietnam especially values cooperation with India in the field of science and technology, especially in strategic fields such as semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
Spreading cultural and social values, strengthening people-to-people exchanges, the two sides need to continue to expand and deepen those connections through cooperation in education and training, culture, tourism, local connections and people-to-people exchanges, especially between young generations; joining hands to create and consolidate a space of peace and stability.
The General Secretary and President emphasized that the thousands of years of historical connection and more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations have created a solid and extremely precious foundation for Vietnam-India relations, with connecting threads of historical depth and many similarities in the development journey. For Vietnam, India has always been a very important partner, and also a close and reliable friend.
