According to VNA, on the evening of November 11 (local time), in the capital Santiago de Chile, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024) and officially opened the Office of the Vietnamese Defense Attache in Chile.
President Luong Cuong and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on an official visit to Chile attended the ceremony.
Also attending were Chilean Defense Minister Maya Fernandez Allende; representatives of Chilean ministries and sectors; diplomatic corps and defense attache offices in Chile.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang - Minister of National Defense - solemnly announced the opening of the Vietnamese Defense Attache Office in Chile.
The Defense Attache Office next to the Vietnamese Embassy in Chile will be the representative office of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, performing advisory functions and conducting defense foreign affairs activities to enhance mutual understanding, promote friendly relations, bilateral defense cooperation as well as other foreign affairs tasks, contributing to the development and deepening of the Vietnam - Chile Comprehensive Partnership.
Minister Phan Van Giang believes that with new spirit, creative solidarity and high determination, the officers and staff of the Vietnam Defense Attache Office in Chile will successfully complete all assigned tasks.
Delighted and honored to attend this special event, Chilean Defense Minister Maya Fernandez Allende sent her warmest congratulations to the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army; affirming that the ceremony held in Chile is a testament to the cooperative and close relationship in many fields between the two countries.
Minister Maya Fernandez Allende said that in the overall traditional cooperative relationship between Chile and Vietnam, the defense sector plays an important role and was mentioned by the two countries during the talks between President Gabriel Boric and President Luong Cuong, and was concretized by a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation.
Ms. Maya Fernandez Allende highly appreciated the decision of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to open a Defense Attache Office in Chile, considering this an important milestone in bilateral relations, thereby helping the two sides continue to promote and enhance cooperation in specific activities such as search and rescue, disaster prevention, as well as experience exchange and student training.
