On November 13 local time, at the Casa de Pizarro Presidential Palace, right after the solemn official welcoming ceremony and private meeting, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong held official talks with President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the State and people of Peru, President Dina Boluarte warmly welcomed the President and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to their official visit to Peru; affirmed that the visit has special significance as it is a high-level visit by the President of Vietnam to Peru on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (November 14, 1994 - November 14, 2024), and expressed confidence that the visit will create an important impetus to bring the relationship between the two countries to a new stage, developing even more strongly.
Affirming that Peru has always been a close friend and a leading important partner of Vietnam in the Latin American region, President Luong Cuong emphasized that Vietnam values the role and position of Peru and wishes to deepen the relationship between the two countries in the coming time.
The two sides were pleased to see that economic and trade relations continue to be strengthened in the context of many challenges facing the global economy; Peru is currently Vietnam's 6th largest trading partner and Vietnam's most important investment destination in Latin America.
The President emphasized that Vietnam and Peru still have great potential for cooperation development, especially when many products enjoy tax exemption incentives because both countries are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP); he proposed that the Peruvian Government create favorable conditions and have special policies for Vietnamese enterprises to cooperate and invest effectively in Peru, contributing to building Peru to become increasingly prosperous, serving the interests of the people.
President Dina Boluarte informed about Peru's socio-economic development orientations and policies in the coming time, highlighting the importance of Chancay port connecting Latin America and Southeast Asia via the Pacific Ocean, which will be inaugurated during the APEC 2024 Summit Week, and expressed the hope that Vietnamese enterprises will be interested in and participate in investment projects to develop multimodal logistics, industrial and technology centers around this port.
The two sides affirmed the will of the two countries to upgrade bilateral relations to a new level. In that spirit, the two leaders agreed to continue to focus on promoting cooperation in areas of both sides' strengths and interests such as economy - trade - investment, including opening each other's markets for agricultural products, national defense - security, agriculture, telecommunications, digital transformation, energy, education - training, cooperation and exchange of experiences in poverty reduction, climate change response, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchange; actively negotiate and sign bilateral cooperation documents to perfect the legal framework for the sustainable development of bilateral relations.
The two leaders agreed to create favorable conditions for the business communities of the two countries to increase exchanges and business cooperation to increase bilateral trade turnover commensurate with the potential of the two countries.
The President of Peru expressed his wish that Vietnam would soon open a diplomatic representative office in Lima, Peru.
At the end of the talks, President Dina Boluarte presided over the ceremony to present President Luong Cuong with the Grand Cross of the Order of the Sun of Peru. This is a noble award, demonstrating the special affection of the Peruvian state and people for the country and people of Vietnam as well as the importance of the friendly cooperation between the two countries on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
After the talks, the two leaders issued a Joint Statement on strengthening bilateral relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Republic of Peru; witnessed the signing of cooperation documents in the field of trade promotion; and met with the press of the two countries and international press.
