Vietnam is ready to support and closely coordinate with Laos in the development process

On the afternoon of April 9, Standing Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Tran Cam Tu had a meeting with General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.

General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith expressed his pleasure to meet Politburo Member, Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu again, highly appreciating the significance of the visit, taking place in the context that the two Parties and two countries have just successfully organized the Congresses of each Party, as well as the National Assembly and People's Council elections at all levels of the two countries and in the joyful atmosphere of welcoming the traditional Tet of the Lao people.

General Secretary and President of Laos warmly congratulated Comrade To Lam on being elected as President of the 16th National Assembly, Comrade Le Minh Hung elected as Prime Minister, Comrade Tran Thanh Man elected as Chairman of the National Assembly, and the Party and State titles have been consolidated, promising a new stage of national development, achieving the set development goals, and Vietnam's position and role will continue to be enhanced in the international arena.

Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu respectfully conveyed the warmest greetings and congratulations of General Secretary To Lam and senior leaders of Vietnam to Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith, a friend and close comrade of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, and at the same time congratulated the General Secretary on continuing to be trusted to be elected as President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, term 2026 - 2031. Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu congratulated Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith on being elected as President of the State by the 10th National Assembly of Laos.

At the meeting, Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu affirmed that Vietnam always consistently values and prioritizes consolidating and developing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic linkage with Laos; and expressed strong support for the directions and socio-economic development policies of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. Standing Secretary of the Secretariat emphasized that Vietnam is ready to share experiences, support, and closely coordinate with Laos in the development process, for the common interests of the two countries and for peace, stability, and cooperation in the region.

Regarding the direction of cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to continue to promote high-level delegation exchanges at all levels; effectively implement the agreements reached; continue to strengthen security and defense cooperation, crime prevention and combat, especially drug crime, cross-border crime, network security; promote the connection between the two economies, especially in infrastructure, focus on implementing key projects, including transport connection projects between the two countries; continue to strengthen trade and investment cooperation, encourage Vietnamese businesses to invest more in Laos in areas of Vietnam's interest and Laos's potential; improve the quality of education and training cooperation, human resource development, especially high-quality human resources, strengthen linkages between localities, especially border localities.

The two sides also agreed to closely coordinate to prepare well for activities to celebrate the Year of Vietnam - Laos Solidarity and Friendship 2027, on the occasion of the 65th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations (1962 - 2027) and the 50th Anniversary of the Signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos (1977 - 2027). This is identified as an important milestone to spread among the Party and people of the two countries about the cooperative relationship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
