Vietnam - Thailand upgrades relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to develop strongly.

VNA reported that, at noon on May 16, at the Government headquarters, right after the 4th Cabinet Session between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand, Member of the Politburo, the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Prime Minister of Thailand Paetongtongtarn Shinawatra met with the press and witness the ceremony to give cooperation documents between the two sides.

Announcing the results of the joint cabinet meeting between the two governments and the two Prime Ministers, Vietnam and Thailand announced the upgrading of their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two sides agreed to urgently develop an Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2025-2030 period based on three key pillars.

In the content of the first pillar - Partnership for Sustainable Peace, the two sides agreed to further deepen political, defense and security cooperation to maintain a peaceful, secure and stable environment in the two countries and in the region.

Accordingly, the two sides will increase high-level contacts, first of all arranging a visit to Vietnam by the King and Queen of Thailand and a visit to Thailand by General Secretary To Lam at an appropriate time.

The two sides agreed to promote and expand cooperation in the fields of maritime security - safety, defense industry, logistics, military - rescue, border management, and military - military exchange; reaffirmed the commitment not to let any individual or organization use the territory of one country to fight against another.

The two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation in the East Sea on the basis of international law, especially UNCLOS 1982, promoting the early approval of COC effectively, substantially, in accordance with international law.

Second pillar - Partnership for Sustainable Development, the two sides agreed to promote connectivity between the two economies within the framework of the 3rd Connecting Strategy, which is connecting supply chains; connecting businesses and localities of the two countries; connecting sustainable growth and green growth strategies between the two countries.

On that basis, the two sides highly agreed on increasing facilitation for each other's import and export goods, striving to reach 25 billion USD in the coming time in a balanced and sustainable direction; Strengthening and creating favorable conditions for businesses of one country to access the market, expanding investment in the other country, especially in potential areas such as clean energy, digital economy, green economy, innovation, high-tech agriculture.

In the third key pillar - Partnership for a Sustainable Future, the two sides identified investment in the young generation, education, people-to-people and cultural exchanges as investment in a sustainable future of the two countries and two peoples.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh believes that with the foundation of friendship, common vision and strategic trust; the Vietnam - Thailand relationship will continue to develop strongly, spreading positive values - not only to the people of the two countries but also for a peaceful, stable, cooperative and sustainable Southeast Asia.
