On October 25, at the National Convention Center, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his official visit to Vietnam and attended the Opening Ceremony of the Convention on the Prevention and Control of Cybercrime.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting, affirming that supporting and cooperating with the United Nations is a "tradition" of Vietnam, the Prime Minister emphasized that in the coming period, Vietnam will further contribute to the activities of the United Nations.
Based on the common interests of both sides, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that the United Nations and Vietnam strengthen cooperation according to the following priorities:
First, in responding to climate change and energy transition, it is recommended that the United Nations support access to preferential climate finance, transfer new-generation clean technology and improve response capacity.
Second, it is recommended that the United Nations continue to promote international financial institutional reform, effectively mobilize ODA and private capital, encourage digital transformation to serve inclusive development, and increase resource mobilization for Vietnam to accelerate the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Third, in the face of recent complicated developments in international life, the international community needs to continue to promote the central role of the United Nations, promote the role of the United Nations Charter and international law, and strengthen international solidarity to address global challenges as well as conflicts in the regions.
Secretary General Antonio Guterres thanked and congratulated Vietnam on successfully hosting the Opening Ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime, the latest testament to Vietnam's outstanding role and contributions at multilateral forums, along with contributions and initiatives that have become "brands" in the fields of peacekeeping, promoting sustainable development, responding to climate change and South-South cooperation.
The General Secretary affirmed that the United Nations will continue to accompany Vietnam in the new development period, especially in supporting the implementation of climate commitments,SDGs and global financial reform.
The UN Secretary-General especially appreciated the role, position and respect of the international community for Vietnam, stemming from Vietnam's history as well as its current success in implementing the United Nations' ideals of peace, security, development and human dignity, along with the open network of relations that Vietnam has had with all United Nations members.
Therefore, the UN Secretary General affirmed that he greatly expected and believed that Vietnam would promote its role, position and prestige to contribute to building a new international relations structure, especially in the context of rapidly developing and complicated international political life.
