Within the framework of the official visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the Republic of Finland, at noon on October 21 (local time), at the Presidential Palace, General Secretary To Lam and President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents between Vietnam and Finland.
According to VNA, the signed cooperation documents include: Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation in the fields of environment, biodiversity and climate change between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam and the Ministry of Environment of Finland; Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland on supporting and promoting the preparation and implementation of projects funded under the Public Investment Program of Finland; Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam and the Export Credit Agency of Finland.
Finland established diplomatic relations with Vietnam on January 25, 1973. The Embassy of Finland in Hanoi was established in 1974 and Vietnam opened an Embassy in Helsinki at the end of 2005.
The traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation have been maintained and developed well by the two countries. During the most difficult period in Vietnam, Finland was one of the leading countries in providing development aid to Vietnam with iconic projects such as Finland's clean water, Finland's water supply system in Hanoi, Hai Phong, etc.
This official visit of General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Finland, took place at the time the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2023), marking a sustainable cooperation journey and opening a new cooperation period towards the next 50 years.
This is an important opportunity for Vietnam - Finland to look back on good cooperation achievements in the past as well as propose major orientations, renew relations, create momentum, bring traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation to new heights.
