Comprehensive care
In the draft project signed by Director of the Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong and submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the general goal is clearly stated: Ensuring that all people in Ho Chi Minh City have access to comprehensive, continuous and quality health care services, live in a safe environment, and develop comprehensively physically and mentally.
The project is divided into 4 phases:
Prenatal health care;
taken care of reproductive health, maternal and newborn health;
Comprehensive care for child development in the first 5 years of life and care for children from 6 to 18 years old;
Protect, care for and improve the health of workers and the elderly.
Notably, the project also clearly states that a "F Trauma Intervention Center" will be formed with the goal of reducing fetal mortality and improving the quality of life of newborns in the future.
In particular, the work of managing, protecting and caring for students' health will be strongly strengthened.
A lot of work to do
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, as of December 2024, the medical examination and treatment network in the city includes 135 hospitals. Of which, there are 12 hospitals under ministries and branches; 32 city hospitals, 19 district hospitals; 72 private hospitals. Ho Chi Minh City still has 22 medical centers...

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health stated that the network of consultation and health check-up services before marriage is still not widely covered, limiting people's access to and use of services. Improving the network of consultation and pre-marital health examination services is a priority.
Ho Chi Minh City still lacks medical equipment to conduct research and application of in-depth genetic diagnosis, especially congenital abnormalities and mental Development delays.
Severe congenital heart filtration and deafness screening in infants have not been widely deployed in medical facilities due to a lack of facilities and equipment.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health noted that the number and quality of the staff working in prenatal screening and newborn screening are still lacking. This affects training, development planning, etc.
