On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27,55 - February 27, 2025), on February 26, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong had a friendly meeting with a delegation of national health sector officials who are Heroes of Labor, Heroes of the Armed Forces, People's Doctors, Professors, scientists, outstanding doctors and pharmacists.
According to VNA, a report by Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that up to now, the health system has been comprehensively expanded, covering all regions of the country, with the health insurance coverage rate in 2024 being 94.2%.
We have built a wide-reaching health network, with more than 13,000 health facilities from the central to local levels. Basic healthcare services have now reached all people, including the most disadvantaged areas, such as remote, isolated, border and island areas.
remarkable advances in preventive medicine have helped control and eliminate many dangerous diseases. Currently, the average life expectancy of Vietnamese people has reached 74.5 years; it is among the countries with high life expectancy in the region.
Presenting flowers to congratulate the health sector and speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Luong Cuong recalled the advice "Health insurance must be from the model" of beloved Uncle Ho in the letter sent to the Health Sector Cadre Conference 70 years ago.
The President affirmed that this is the guideline for every action, the precious luggage of Vietnamese doctors throughout the process of serving the Fatherland and the people.
The President stated that, imbued with President Ho Chi Minh's profound teachings, under the leadership of the Party, the efforts, solidarity, and striving, over the past 70 years of building, developing and accompanying the country, the Vietnamese health sector has achieved many great achievements, leaving deep impressions. This is not only the achievement of the health sector but also the pride of the entire Vietnamese people.
On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President respectfully expressed gratitude, acknowledged, honored and highly appreciated the great contributions and silent sacrifices of the doctors - outstanding "white- chaired" soldiers nationwide and 46 People's Doctors who were awarded noble titles this time.
Pointing out that health care for the people is a priority in the socio-economic development strategy of our Party and State, the President suggested that the health sector continue to focus on developing the national health system, ensuring that all people, whether in urban or rural areas, or remote areas, border areas or islands, have access to basic healthcare services; focus on improving the quality of specialized healthcare, investing in the development of central and provincial hospitals, focusing on mastering modern medical techniques and technologies, improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, towards international health standards.
Along with that, the President requested to accelerate digital transformation in the health sector, apply information technology in management and provision of health services, deploy remote medical examination and treatment models, contribute to improving efficiency, saving costs and creating favorable conditions for people.

With the noble and glorious career of the health sector, deeply imbued with the teachings of beloved Uncle Ho: "A good doctor must be like a gentle mother", the President hopes that each health worker will always be shining examples in studying to improve professional qualifications, in cultivating, practicing, preserving political qualities, professional ethics, continuing to promote the achievements, strongly rising to successfully complete the noble mission, truly being a good doctor, and at the same time being a " gentle mother" in caring for, protecting and improving the health of the people in the new situation.
On this occasion, the President awarded the title of "People's Doctor" to 46 outstanding doctors in the health sector.
