The harsh heat causes the demand for electricity for daily use to increase sharply

ANH HUY |

EVNHANOI recorded a continuous increase in electricity consumption in the whole city, setting many new records in just the first 4 days of August 2025.

According to information from Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI), in just the first 4 days of August 2025, the consumption output increased by more than 25.5 million kWh. This clearly reflects the sudden increase in the use of cooling equipment such as air conditioners, refrigerators, fans, etc. This is also the highest output level since the beginning of the year in Hanoi.

Not only output, the city's electricity consumption capacity also continues to break previous records. Specifically: if on July 30, 2025, the consumption peaked at 5,608.6 MW, then less than a week later, at 1:44 p.m. on August 4, 2025, the capacity continued to set a new peak with the figure of 5,992 MW - an increase of 6.8% in just 5 days and an increase of nearly 14% compared to the peak in 2024.

The main reason for the high consumption is the continuous hot weather for many days, combined with summer vacation, which prolongs the time of using electrical equipment in the family, especially the cooling equipment group.

Equipment such as air conditioners often have to operate at full capacity to maintain a stable temperature, causing electricity consumption to increase sharply even when the usage period remains unchanged.

According to the Berkeley Research Institute, California, USA: devices that have not been retracted, even if not used, will still consume about 5% - 10% of the electricity consumed in the family.

EVNHANOI recommends that customers, offices and production places join hands to use electricity economically and efficiently, turn off unnecessary electrical equipment and limit the use of high-capacity equipment during peak hours of electricity consumption from 12:00 ÷ 15:00 and from 22:00 ÷ 24:00 daily. At the same time, pay attention to reasonable use of air conditioners (reserved at 26°C or higher, used in combination with fans).

In parallel with saving electricity by daily behavior, EVNHANOI encourages customers to use the EVNHANOI App or the evnhanoi.vn website to easily and intuitively track electricity consumption indicators.

In particular, the Setting warning thresholds feature on the EVNHANOI App is being highly appreciated by many households. This feature allows users to proactively set the desired consumption level in the month. When the electricity usage level exceeds the set threshold, the system will automatically send warnings via the application, helping customers promptly adjust their consumption behavior before the bill increases dramatically.

Energy is not an endless resource, therefore, balancing needs, habits and energy saving and saving requires the cooperation of the whole society, from the specific, self-conscious actions of each member, each household and each enterprise.

If you need to learn more about economical and efficient ways to use electricity, customers in Hanoi please contact EVNHANOI's customer service hotline via phone number 19001288 (service 24/7) for reception, consultation and answers
