The signing of the investment cooperation agreement marks an important milestone in the journey to realize the ambition of turning Vietnam into a high-quality steel production center in the region. This event is not only a handshake between a leading industrial group in Vietnam and a globally renowned unit in metal smelting technology, but also opens up great prospects for the country's heavy industry through investment in the most modern technology lines today.
According to the agreement, Primetals Technologies from Austria will act as a partner to provide technology solutions, technical designs and core equipment for the project. The focus of this cooperation is the construction of two key steel production lines with unprecedented technical specifications in Vietnam.
First is the thick plate steel line with a capacity of 2 million tons/year, producing plate steel products with a width of 5m and a thickness of up to 35cm; and the continuous rolling line HRC with a capacity of 3 million tons/year using advanced Arvedi ESP technology, capable of creating super-thin steel products of only 0.7mm, with a width of 1.75m. With these two steel production lines having a total capacity of 5 million tons/year, Xuan Thien aims to have the first product after only 24 months. These products with impressive technical specifications have strategic significance, helping Vietnam soon be able to be self-sufficient in steel raw materials for industries that require high durability, weather resistance and large material sizes such as offshore wind power pole manufacturing or shipbuilding... currently having to completely import.
Along with that is a production line for steel bars and wire with a capacity of 2 million tons/year, producing high-intensity steel products, alloy steel, anti- earthquake steel... serving demanding construction projects such as bridges, high-rise buildings...
Sharing about this strategic investment decision, Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang - General Director of Nam Dinh Swallow Joint Stock Company - said: "Currently, no domestic unit is producing high-intensity, weather-resistant steel to serve the shipping and wind power pole industry. Meanwhile, at Xuan Thien Green Steel Complex, we are simultaneously implementing post-steel processing projects such as: shipbuilders and wind power pole manufacturing plants that need this steel in high demand. Therefore, the Group has decided to invest in the production of these products, not only contributing to helping Vietnam become self-sufficient in high-quality raw materials to serve heavy industries, reducing dependence on imported sources but also directly serving the project chain of Xuan Thien Group.
Nam Dinh Xuan Thien Green Steel Complex in Nghia Hung District, the old Nam Dinh Province (now Rang Dong Commune, Ninh Binh Province). This is a large-scale project complex with a total investment of up to 98,000 billion VND and a designed capacity of 9.5 million tons/year, including 2 projects: Xuan Thien Nam Dinh Green Steel Factory No. 1 with a capacity of 7.5 million tons of steel/year (including: HRC hot-rolled steel, coil steel) and Xuan Thien Nghia Hung Green Steel Factory with a capacity of 2 million tons of steel alloy/ Wire per year. On June 23, 2025, Xuan Thien Green Steel Complex was officially started and is expected to have the first product on the market in 2027.
