USD Index
On November 16, in the US market, the USD Index (DXY) measuring the fluctuations of the greenback against 6 major currencies decreased slightly by 0.03%, reaching 99.17 points.
Looking back at the greenback market last week, the USD had mixed movements with the following key points:
At the beginning of the week, the USD started positively and increased in the first sessions, the DXY index once surpassed the psychological mark of 100 points. However, it then quickly weakened at the end of the week when the increase could not be maintained, marking the first week of depreciation after many consecutive increases.
The main reason is the prolonged US government shutdown, which disrupts economic data and increases concerns about US economic growth prospects, making market sentiment more cautious.
Over the weekend, the US dollar recovered against the EUR and remained stable against the JPY as the US stock market recovered after a sell-off and investors considered the possibility of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) cutting interest rates in December. Along with that, information about the US government reopening also affected the USD, however, the impact was unclear.
In general, the USD last week was struggling with pressure from political and economic factors such as the US government shutdown and expectations of the Fed's monetary policy, leading to alternating increases and decreases and cautious market sentiment.
