Gold price forecast
The outlook for gold prices next week is assessed to be volatile as the market enters a sensitive phase with the interest rate decision of the US Federal Reserve (Fed).
Although gold continues to protect the important support zone of 4,000 USD/ounce, factors such as a strong USD, increased real yields and a positive US labor market are putting significant pressure on the precious metal.
The latest survey by a precious metals website with 18 Wall Street experts shows that cautious sentiment is prevailing. Only 4 people, equivalent to 22%, predict gold prices will increase next week. 7 experts, accounting for 39%, believe prices will decrease; the remaining 7 predict the market will continue to move sideways. This result reflects concerns that gold is unlikely to form a clear upward trend as the outlook for US monetary policy is still uncertain.
Meanwhile, individual investors appeared more optimistic. Among 249 people participating in the online survey, 147 people, equivalent to 59%, expected gold prices to increase. 48 people predicted prices would decrease and 54 people thought gold would continue to accumulate. The difference between the two groups shows that the 4,000 USD/ounce mark is playing an important role in market sentiment.
In the short term, the diễn biến of the USD and US bond yields may decide the direction of gold. The recovery of the greenback makes gold more expensive for buyers using other currencies. Meanwhile, the increase in 10-year real-term yields makes the opportunity cost of holding non-genuine assets like gold higher.
Cash flow focused on technology and artificial intelligence stocks also somewhat reduces the attractiveness of precious metals. Investors are prioritizing assets that can generate profits and cash flow, while gold is mainly held for the purpose of preserving value.
However, the long-term outlook for gold has not completely weakened. Public debt, budget deficit, the risk of currency devaluation and geopolitical instability are still factors supporting safe-haven demand. Therefore, gold prices next week may continue to fluctuate around the 4,000 USD/ounce range, while strongly reacting to the Fed's message and the US economic data released.
