The hot weather of the late summer days of June 2025, we went to the small house of Mrs. Loan's family in Hai An commune, Ninh Binh province.
In a small house lacking everything, Ms. Loan confided: "In 2008, my husband was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease, and after only 3 months, he discovered that he had passed away and left behind my mother and 3 children. Unfortunately, it did not stop there, nearly 3 years later, my 2 sons, Nguyen Van Tien (born in 1988) and Nguyen Thanh Tuan (born in 1990), were diagnosed with kidney disease and both had to be treated."

Since her two children were sick, Mrs. Loan went to Hanoi to find an extra job to conveniently care for and treat her child.
The old mother went to wash dishes and clean them every day to earn money. To facilitate work and reduce the burden of renting, Ms. Loan asked to sleep at the restaurant.
"Tuan had to have dialysis continuously, so he was very weak and often had to be hospitalized, while Tien, although sick, still took the opportunity to work to help me earn more money to get some money. Over time, her health gradually declined, she could not go to work, her child returned to his hometown, maintained medicine to treat his illness and went to the doctor regularly" - Mrs. Loan was in tears.

Now, all the burden is on the old mother's shoulders, with a small salary for washing dishes, Mrs. Loan cannot afford to pay for medicine outside the monthly insurance payment for her two sons. Therefore, the mother and daughter often fall into a situation of lack of funds, having to borrow money everywhere for many months.
In the dilapidated house, the tired and worried look was clearly visible on Mr. Tien's wagging face. To save money, Mr. Tien decided to return to his hometown, take care of himself and treat himself with medicine.
"I love my brother and mother, I just want to be more healthy so that I can help my mother go to work, have more income to treat both of them and show hospitality to my old mother," Mr. Tien said sadly.
According to the leader of Hai An Commune People's Committee, Ms. Loan's family is a poor household in the locality, with especially difficult circumstances. Both of Mrs. Loan's sons have kidney failure and have had to be treated for many years. The family often travels to Hanoi for treatment.
