The simple house in hamlet 5, Do Xa village, Vinh Lai commune one day in April, incense smoke billowing. In the small house, 2 children wearing white mourning, innocent eyes but still filled with sadness. Mrs. Bui Thi Hien, grandmother of Nguyen Thi Anh Hong (born in 2017, 3B grade student, Ung Hoe Elementary School) looks haggard, hugging 2 grandchildren, teary eyes.
The childhood of Anh Hong's sisters went through continuous pains. In September 2024, Ms. Vu Thi Tham (born in 1994, Hong's mother) was diagnosed with blood cancer. The days after that were a series of chemotherapy days with physical pain and mental exhaustion. Tragedy struck when in December 2024, Mr. Nguyen Van Thong (born in 1993, Hong's father) suddenly passed away due to a traffic accident on the way to work. Losing her pillar, Ms. Tham suffered from a serious illness and had to endure the pain to be a support for her two young children.
But then her condition gradually worsened, on April 10, 2026, Ms. Tham passed away. A few days earlier, Hong's grandfather also passed away from esophageal cancer.
Losing 3 loved ones, Hong and her sisters rely on their grandmother. Until now, the 2 children still do not believe that the days to come will no longer have the warm embrace of their mother. Hong still tells her younger sister about her mother, as if her mother is just away. Sharing with Lao Dong, Ms. Bui Thi Hien said that since Hong's mother passed away, Hong has become quieter and less talkative. Every day after school, Hong stays at home to sweep the house and look after her younger sibling. Hong's younger sister is only 4 years old, still innocent, not fully understanding the pain she has just experienced.
Ms. Hien herself, less than 2 years after losing her husband, son, daughter-in-law, is also mentally exhausted. After arranging the funeral for her husband and children, Ms. Hien also plans to find a job to earn income, both to pay off the debt for treatment of her husband and children, and to take care of her grandchildren.
It's extremely painful, but looking at the children, I have to encourage myself, try to overcome it to be a support for Hong's sisters. The family also really hopes for the care, love, and help of the social community, so that the sisters and children have a better future, partially compensating for the disadvantages when they were too young and had to be orphaned" - Ms. Hien confided.
Heartbroken by the students' circumstances, Ms. Bui Thi Phuong Nhung - Vice Principal of Ung Hoe Primary School - said that Nguyen Thi Anh Hong, a 3B student, is a case with special circumstances when she is orphaned. Anh Hong herself is a good student, sociable with friends. After her incident, the school, teachers, and friends also encouraged, shared, and supported her in her studies and life. We really hope that the community and philanthropists will open their loving arms, so that the two orphaned children can soon overcome their pain and continue to go to school.
