On September 23, representatives of the Golden Heart Charity Fund came to Ho Chi Minh City University Medical Center Hospital to visit and present 15,839,668 VND to support the family of baby Than Gia Thinh, from Tay Ninh province. The money was donated by readers of Lao Dong Newspaper.
Gia Thinh was born on September 30, 2025, suffering from congenital biliary tract atrophy leading to cirrhosis. In July 2026, when Lao Dong Newspaper recorded the family's situation, the baby was only 10 months old and was waiting for a liver transplant in circumstances where the family faced many economic difficulties.
After a period of treatment, on August 20, Gia Thinh underwent a liver transplant with the liver part from the baby's own mother. Currently, the baby's health continues to be monitored, treated and cared for post-transplant by doctors at Ho Chi Minh City University Medical Center Hospital.
In just a few days, Gia Thinh will turn 1 year old. Although he has undergone liver transplants, he still needs to be monitored for health and treated for a long time.
Gia Thinh's family is currently in difficult circumstances. Mr. and Mrs. Truong Thi Kim Tuyen (baby Gia Thinh's mother) live in a rented room in hamlet 1, Thanh Loi commune, Tay Ninh province. The family has no house, no production land and almost no accumulated assets.
Before her child got sick, Ms. Tuyen worked as a sales staff, and her husband worked as a construction worker with unstable income. Since her child had to be treated for a long time, Ms. Tuyen quit her job to take care of her child, while her husband's income was not enough to cover living and treatment expenses.
Previously, doctors assessed that Ms. Tuyen had the ability to donate her liver to her child. However, the treatment and liver transplantation process was prolonged, and the family faced many costs while income was limited.
Gia Thinh's liver transplant is an important milestone for Ms. Tuyen's family. Currently, the baby's parents want their child to continue to stabilize his health, respond well to the post-transplant treatment process and be able to return home soon.
The support of 15,839,668 VND from the Golden Heart Charity Social Fund awarded at this time is a source of encouragement for the family, contributing to helping Gia Thinh's parents have more conditions to take care of their baby during treatment.
