Abolish the division of quotas according to the admission method
In mid-January 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology announced its expected enrollment plan for 2025.
Accordingly, the university plans to divide the percentage of the quota between the methods according to the ratio: Talent admission (20%), based on the thinking assessment test score (40%) and high school graduation exam score (40%).
However, on March 12, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien, Deputy Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the division of quotas between methods is to comply with the draft university admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
According to the draft, universities must convert admission methods and combinations to the same scale. Thus, schools do not need to divide quotas according to each method and combination as before.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology will announce the formula for converting points after the Ministry of Education and Training "cks out" the admission regulations.
Previously, at the admission - career guidance consulting program, Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of the Admissions - Career Guidance Board, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that among the 3 admission methods, the talent admission method is expected to have the highest equivalent conversion coefficient compared to the other 2 methods, which are the thinking assessment test scores or high school graduation exams.
For candidates taking the thinking assessment test, this test score will also be superior to the high school graduation exam score. In addition, if candidates have additional foreign language certificates such as IELTS, they can also receive additional bonus points when applying.
For example, students in the thinking assessment test get 75 points, plus 4 points from the IELTS certificate, so the admission score using this method is 79 points. This score will be converted equivalent to push up for general admission with all other methods, said Mr. Hai.
Changing the way to convert points
At the program "A day as a student at the National Economics University" that just took place, the National Economics University said that it will not divide the quota between admission methods as every year, previously it was expected to use the general scale of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Dr. Le Anh Duc - Head of Training Management Department, National Economics University - said that this change is based on the draft university admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, so schools do not need to allocate quotas between methods.
For the National Economics University, the scale used for conversion is 30. Candidates can still apply for admission in many ways, such as using the ability assessment test scores of Hanoi National University (maximum 150), using the thinking assessment test scores of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (maximum 100)... After converting everything to a scale of 30, the school will get the highest score for consideration.
To ensure fairness for candidates and propose a convincing formula, the National Economics University must gather a team of research experts based on the combination of many criteria, such as learning outcomes and output results of students in recent years, thereby finding a suitable conversion coefficient.
The equivalent conversion between methods is understood as the equivalent of learning capacity, not the equivalent conversion in terms of numbers.
For example, a candidate achieves 1,500 SAT, in the top 5% of the best candidates in that exam, when converting schools, there will be a way to calculate so that it is equivalent and not disadvantageous for candidates, for example, converting to the top 5% of candidates with the highest high school graduation exam scores.
Increasing new admission combinations
According to the representatives of the schools, this year the university admission plan is expected to have many flexible admission methods and diverse subject combinations to create more open opportunities for candidates.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology this year added the K01 admission combination (Math, Literature, combined with one of the 4 subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics) and the D04 combination (Math, Literature, Chinese) in addition to the combinations that have been enrolled over the years.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa - Head of the Department of Testing and Training Quality Assurance, University of Transport - shared that in 2025, in addition to traditional combinations, the University of Transport will open an additional GT1 admission combination (Math, Physics, IT).
In addition, the school doubles the Math scores when considering admission based on high school graduation exam scores as well as high school transcripts.
The University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) in 2025 will add 2 combinations: Math, English, IT and Math, Physics, IT in addition to the 4 traditional combinations: A00, A01, D01, B00.
In the expected 2025 enrollment plan, Hanoi University of Industry will open 5 new admission combinations for IT subjects including: A0C (Math, Physics, Technology), A0T (Math, Physics, IT), B0C (Math, Chemistry, Technology), D0C (Math, English, Technology) and D0G (Math, English, Economic and Legal Education).
