According to the official format of Miss World 2026, 111 contestants are successively shortened to Top 40, Top 20, Top 12 and Top 6. However, the value of the sub-competitions is not the same.
In the Top 40 round, contestants are divided into four regions including Africa, America and the Caribbean, Asia and Oceania, and Europe. Each region has 10 representatives. Contestants who win at the continental level in the Humanity Project, Media, Challenge Face-to-Face, Fashion Beauty and Audience Votes have the opportunity to win tickets to this round. The overall winner of the Talent and Sports competition is in the Top 40, regardless of region.
From the Top 40, five contestants were specially admitted to the Top 20, including two leaders of the Compassion Project, one winner of Communication, one winner of Battle Challenge and one winner of Fashion Beauty. The remaining 15 positions are selected by the judges, ensuring that each region has five representatives in the Top 20.
The charity project continues to have two positions in the Top 12 and a separate slot in the Top 6. Therefore, this is the sub-competition with the greatest impact. If she tops the charity project, Bao Ngoc will have a direct path to become one of the six candidates for the crown.
Representatives of Vietnam have a basis to invest heavily in this content. Bao Ngoc's Gen Zero project focuses on climate action and promoting the leadership role of young people, associated with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 13. She founded this organization in 2024 and pursues the goal of contributing to Vietnam's commitment to net zero emissions by 2050.
Three competitions that could bring Bao Ngoc straight into the Top 20
Besides the Compassion Project, Bao Ngoc needs to achieve high results in Fashion Beauty, Head-to-head Challenge and Communication. The overall winner of each competition is specially admitted to the Top 20, thereby avoiding being completely dependent on the selection of the judges.
With a height of 1.86m and international competition experience, Bao Ngoc has an advantage at Miss Fashion. However, the criteria of the competition are not only about physique. The judges assess the ability to master the runway, confidence, demeanor and costume performance skills. In the first round, 40 contestants were selected to continue, but the list has not been publicly announced. The overall winner will be determined in the final night on September 5.
The head-to-head challenge is also suitable for Bao Ngoc's foreign language strengths, thinking and expressive ability. Meanwhile, the Communication section requires her to build attractive content, tell personal stories and community projects consistently on a digital platform.
Another special path is Audience Voting. The four leading contestants in each region can enter the Top 40. The voting then continues to select two people into the Top 12 and finally puts one person directly into the Top 6. This is a significant advantage for the host representative if they receive great support from the audience.
