Ador has asked the media to continue using the official name of the Newjeans instead of NJZ.
ADOR explained: "NewJeans members have announced plans to operate under a name that was not agreed upon with ADOR, causing confusion for reporters. The exclusive contract between NewJeans members and ADOR is still legally valid. The complaints about terminating the contract are unilateral."
The company representative continued to share: "We filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the contract and are looking for a ban to maintain ADOR's position as the group's management board. We respectfully request reporters to use the official group name "NewJeans", based on the contract."
The company emphasizes the importance of exclusive contracts in the entertainment industry, calling for accurate information and cooperation with the media. "We are trying our best to solve confusion quickly and bring great music and content to fans," Ador's conclusion statement.
The controversy originated from NewJeans' announcement on February 7 that the girls had changed their group name to NJZ. The group revealed plans to release a new song under the name NJZ on March 23 and join Complex Con.
During a live broadcast, member Minji shared: "We will reveal our debut song with the name NJZ on March 23. I am both excited and worried".
Hyein added: "As NJZs, we will continue to show something new, just like we always do."
Meanwhile, Ador filed a lawsuit on January 3, 2024 to the Seoul Center Court to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract with Newjeans. Next, on January 13, 2025, they searched for a ban to prevent the group signing separate advertising contracts. The first hearing was scheduled on 7.3.
