The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just issued Official Letter No. 5910/BVHTTDL-DSVH to the People's Committee of Hue City on responding to and overcoming natural disasters for relics and museums in Hue City.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism highly appreciates the sense of responsibility and proactiveness of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hue City, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and museums and relic management boards in the area in disaster prevention, response and overcoming the consequences of floods, contributing to minimizing damage to cultural heritages in the area.
However, due to natural disasters and floods occurring with high intensity and range from November 2 to November 4 with many complicated developments of natural disasters, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested the People's Committee of Hue City to direct competent agencies to organize inspections and reviews of the current status of the collapsed Hoang Thanh wall.
At the same time, check and review the technical status of relics, items, walls, tiled roofs, foundations and technical infrastructure of the World Heritage Site of the Hue Monuments Complex in general and relics in the city to assess the level of damage to serve the restoration and restoration work.

The locality needs to promptly protect the school, preventing subsidence and landslides at the relic site to ensure the safety of the relic site and the safety of the people around the relic site.
At the same time, organize an inventory, review, and assessment of the conservation status of minerals and antiques in the relic that are affected or at risk of damage due to floods, waterlogging, and mold to develop a timely conservation plan to avoid irreversible losses.
Requesting the People's Committee of Hue City to prioritize, allocate funding and assign the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to continue reviewing the areas of the Imperial Citadel wall that have been classified as a World Cultural Heritage. The Hue Monuments Complex is at high risk of landslides.
Urgently develop a plan for the restoration and embellishment of relics according to the provisions of the Law on Cultural Heritage No. 45/2024/QH15 and Decree No. 208/2025/ND-CP dated July 17, 2025 of the Government, to submit to competent authorities for consideration and decision.
In the long term, it is recommended that the People's Committee of Hue City direct the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City to coordinate with specialized agencies in the area to develop a Disaster Risk Management Plan, in order to be more proactive in receiving, preventing, responding, minimizing and recovering from natural disaster risks for relics in the area.
Strengthen propaganda and guidance work to participate in protection work, in order to detect and warn of unusual signs early to promptly have response and remedial plans, thereby contributing to enhancing the effectiveness of management, protection and promotion of the value of the relic, ensuring safety for people and visitors.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that prolonged floods caused 15m of Hue Imperial Citadel wall (Dang Thai Than Street, about 50m from Hoa Binh Gate) to collapse.
In addition, the flood also caused a landslide of about 10m of the lake embankment in Tu Duc Mausoleum, the wooden column system in Dai Cung Mon entrance hall was soaked with water.
The Hue Monuments Conservation Center reopens visitors' attractions in the Hue Monuments Complex from 9am on November 4. Because some equipment and electrical systems are being fixed, the Center has issued temporary tickets to replace electronic tickets.
