Siu Black was born in 1967 in Plei Tonghia village, Kon Tum, of the Ba Na ethnic group. Orphaned since childhood, Siu Black had to rely on relatives and be independent in the midst of difficult life. She studied vocal music at Dak Lak School of the Arts, then worked at the Provincial Song and Dance Troupe.
From small stages in the Central Highlands, Siu Black has gradually affirmed her position in the Vietnamese music industry with a powerful and individual voice, imbued with a thousand-year-old breath.
At her peak, Siu Black was one of the most sought-after singers. At one point, she received a salary of up to 4,000 USD to sing three songs at a wedding. Not only stopping at singing, Siu Black has also become a familiar face on television as a judge on programs such as Vietnam Idol, Rock Viet, where she impressed with her frankness and enthusiasm.
However, in 2013, Siu Black encountered a major financial incident and was involved in a buildup of debt. She was forced to leave the stage, return to her hometown Kon Tum to work in the fields, raise pigs, grow vegetables, and start a simple but peaceful life. From a sought-after star, Siu Black accepts to start over in the countryside, taking care of her daily life.
In recent years, Siu Black has faced many health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney failure and heart failure. The news that she was hospitalized for emergency care in October 2025 made the audience worried and sympathetic.
Previously, despite her poor health, Siu Black remained optimistic, sometimes appearing in small performances or interacting with fans.
Regarding marriage, after many ups and downs, Siu Black has found her joy again when she reunited with her ex-husband - Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung and held a wedding in 2023. She once confided: "When I don't sing, I am still happy in the countryside, growing vegetables and raising pigs with my relatives. A peaceful life is the most precious thing".
From a brilliant "Mountain and Forest Flowers" on stage to a rustic Central Highlands woman, Siu Black is always a symbol of determination, of a burning passion for music and the spirit of overcoming adversity.
