On October 20, in order to summarize the implementation of the Master Plan for investment in preservation, restoration and promotion of the value of the World Cultural Heritage of Hoi An Ancient Town associated with the development of Hoi An city and sustainable tourism in the period of 2012 - 2025, and at the same time orient the development strategy in accordance with the new context, the People's Committee of Da Nang city held a Conference to summarize the Plan.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City said that the World Cultural Heritage of Hoi An Ancient Urban Area is one of the treasures not only of Da Nang City but also of Vietnam's common pride on the world heritage map.
After hundreds of years of history, with outstanding values in architecture, culture, landscape and community lifestyle, Hoi An was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in 1999, marking an important milestone in the process of preserving and promoting national cultural values.
In particular, since the Prime Minister approved Decision No. 78/QD-TTg dated January 12, 2012 on the Master Plan for Investment in Conservation, restoration and promotion of the value of Hoi An Ancient Town associated with the development of Hoi An city and tourism in the period of 2012 - 2025, the conservation work has entered a new - more methodical phase, with deeper depth and closer connection between heritage conservation with socio-economic development, sustainable tourism development.
Ms. Thi informed that after nearly 13 years of implementation, the Plan has created comprehensive changes in the work of preserving, restoring and promoting the value of Hoi An Ancient Urban Area.
The relic system has been restored and restored, many works have escaped the risk of serious deterioration; intangible cultural heritage has been preserved and promoted, contributing to preserving the soul of Hoi An culture; technical infrastructure, landscape, and environment have been gradually upgraded and improved; local communities have raised awareness and role in heritage conservation.
Hoi An continues to be one of the leading destinations for Vietnamese and international tourism, and is also a successful model of heritage conservation associated with sustainable development.

"In the context of implementing the two-level local government model, Hoi An has the opportunity to be more proactive in conservation work, shorten administrative processes, improve management efficiency, and at the same time ensure harmony between tourism conservation and development, between preserving cultural values and improving community life.
Hoi An is a vital urban heritage, requiring us to be extremely cautious, considerate, and scientific to ensure that the overall character of an ancient port city - an ecological - cultural - tourism city in the connection of history, culture, architectural landscape and nature between localities today", Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee emphasized.
In addition, Ms. Thi also believes that it is necessary to ensure the connection of conservation and development space between Hoi An Ancient Town and Cu Lao Cham World Biosphere Reserve; overcome shortcomings, solve risks and challenges that have been and are facing heritage, and keep up with the digital age and digital era.
