On March 1st, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee announced that it had issued a plan to implement the Project on preserving and promoting the value of the Tay Nguyen gong cultural space heritage in the province in 2026.
The project aims to organize the synchronous and effective implementation of heritage conservation and promotion tasks; ensure progress, raise community awareness and the role of artisans in preserving and transmitting gongs.
According to the plan, the province set out 13 key task groups, including: Investigating and surveying the current situation of gongs and the team of practitioners throughout the province; restoring rituals and festivals using gongs of the Bahnar and H're people; opening classes to teach gong playing and gong adjustment to the Bahnar, Jrai, Cham, H're people; organizing the program "Weekend gongs - Enjoying and Experiencing";
Gia Lai Provincial Ethnic Culture Festival; International Gong Festival in Gia Lai in 2026; building policies to support the restoration of the Gong Cultural Space; displaying the Gong Cultural Space at the Museum; exhibition on the heritage of Gia Lai Provincial Gong Cultural Space; supporting gongs, costumes, jewelry, traditional musical instruments and related equipment; installing and decorating performance stages; organizing exchanges and performances at home and abroad; implementing artisan support regimes.
Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over the implementation of the plan; summarize the cost estimate and send it to the Department of Finance for appraisal and submission to the Provincial People's Committee for approval.
The Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religious Affairs coordinates to implement relevant contents; guides the integration of the plan into component projects under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction and the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
Communes and wards proactively deploy tasks in localities; promote propaganda about the project and the work of preserving and promoting heritage values in many forms; and at the same time connect and introduce reputable artisans to participate in teaching at gong playing and gong adjustment classes.
