On March 1st, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leaders of Dong Quang Ward People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province, said that people in Hanh Phuc Doan residential group had dismantled camps and no longer gathered at the entrance to the Southeast landfill.

Currently, people no longer stop garbage trucks. However, it is still not possible to bring more garbage into the factory because the amount of accumulated garbage has not been completely treated. In addition, to restore the factory's operation, it is necessary to overcome the shortcomings that the Department of Agriculture and Environment pointed out earlier" - a representative of Dong Quang Ward People's Committee informed.
Regarding the amount of domestic waste generated daily in the central wards of Thanh Hoa province, environmental units are currently collecting and transporting it to landfills in other localities for treatment.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, in the first days of 2026, in the central wards of Thanh Hoa province such as Hac Thanh, Ham Rong, Dong Quang, Dong Son, Dong Tien, Nguyet Vien, Quang Phu, there was a situation of household waste accumulating and piling up on many roads.
The cause was determined to be the sudden increase in garbage during Tet, while people in Dong Quang ward did not allow garbage trucks to enter the Southeast landfill area due to concerns about overload and pollution.
After the incident occurred, Thanh Hoa Environment and Urban Joint Stock Company and collection units mobilized forces and vehicles to urgently transport and handle the accumulated waste.
According to statistics from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, from February 12 to February 19, the total volume of waste received at the Southeast Domestic Waste Treatment Plant reached 4,559 tons, an average of about 650 tons/day. On February 16 (29th day of the twelfth lunar month), the amount of waste reached 1,193 tons, 2.38 times the designed capacity. The sudden increase in waste, along with rainy and humid weather, has caused odors and insects, affecting some neighboring households.
Faced with the above situation, the Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Environment proposed that 7 central wards proactively contact and sign contracts with solid domestic waste treatment units inside and outside the province; and at the same time, divert and transport waste to other treatment areas to reduce the load on the Southeast domestic waste treatment plant, and soon resolve the backlog of waste.
