With a record of 12 films earning over 100 billion VND, Vietnamese cinema has expanded its market size, touched emotions and conquered the general audience.
As of November 22, 12 films with revenue of over 100 billion VND in 2025 according to figures on Box Office Vietnam (an independent box office monitoring unit) are: Red Rain (714 billion VND), The Four Guardians (332 billion VND), Investigator Kien: The Unhealthy Project (249 billion VND), The Ancestor's House (242 billion VND), Lat mat 8: Sun Rings (232 billion VND), The billion-dollar kiss (212 billion VND), Geography: The Sun in the dark (172 billion VND), Bringing My Mother away (172 billion VND), Quoc Nhap Trang (149 billion VND), Chi Dau (113 billion VND), The Heartless Light (106 billion VND), Truy for the Dragon and the Diem Diem (111 billion VND as of the morning of November 22).
Thus, in 2025, the film's revenue of over 100 billion VND will double in 2024 and 2023.
If the period of 2023 - 2024 is the consolidation of the position of major "brands" such as Tran Thanh and Ly Hai, then 2025 is a simultaneous explosion in quality and market access.
Previously, comedy and family love dominated. Currently, the hundred-billion-dong film rankings have shown an expansion in genre to horror and thriller films.
From 2023-2025, films such as Mai, Nha Ba Nu, Lat mat 7, Chi dau... will still play the main role, exploiting generational conflicts, family love and sacrifice, easily creating empathy.
The success of Ma Da, Quy Nhap Trang and Nha Gia Hoan Thu shows that the horror genre has found a formula to balance the scary elements and Vietnamese spiritual culture.
The resounding success of Red Rain, Geography: Sun in the dark proves that the general public is willing to support large-invested war and historical film projects. These are all quality films, exploiting emotional topics, and are carefully and elaborately made.
The diversity in the genre of Vietnamese cinema also includes Investigator Kien: Ky an khong dong, Tuong tu ac tinh... These films show the positive reception of the audience with dramatic plots, mixed with a bit of entertainment.
Realizing the target of 12,500 billion VND

The success of Red Rain and Mai has created a new level of revenue, far exceeding the 500 billion VND mark, posing new challenges and goals for producers.
This revenue figure shows that the growth range of the Vietnamese market is still very large. Because the audience not only goes to see but is also willing to watch many times if the film is really of good quality.
Some viewers have shared that they watched "Red Rain" more than ten times, because they were moved by the story of the film.
The increase in revenue helps filmmakers reinvest in production quality. The investment shows the narrowing technical gap between Vietnamese cinema and regional and world cinema.
The general audience now not only needs a good story, but they also need a high-quality cinematic experience.
According to Box Office Vietnam, in the first six months of the year, domestic box office (including foreign works) reached VND3,017 billion, an increase of nearly VND270 billion over the same period last year, expected to reach a total revenue of Vietnamese films of about VND4,000 billion in 2025.
According to the development strategy of Vietnam's cultural industries to 2030, with a vision to 2045, which sets a goal: By 2030, the film industry striving to achieve a total revenue of about VND 12,500 billion will no longer be too far away.
