In the updated report up to the afternoon of November 22, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention said that the flood is causing serious flooding, causing great damage to people, infrastructure and essential services in many provinces in the Central Central region, South Central and Central Highlands.
From 7:00 p.m. on November 21 to 4:00 p.m. on November 22, rain in the Central Central and South Central regions will generally be 20 - 40mm. However, many stations recorded much heavier rainfall such as Ea M'Doal (Dak Lak) 90mm, Song Hinh (Dak Lak) 90mm, Ho Hoa Son (Khanh Hoa) 56mm, Ho Quang Hien (Gia Lai) 52mm.
It is forecasted that from the evening of November 22 to 24, the rain will continue to increase: the area of Hue City, Da Nang City and the East of Quang Ngai province may reach 60-120mm, locally over 250mm. In eastern Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Bac Khanh Hoa, rain is forecast to be 40-80mm, with some places exceeding 150mm.
Floods on many rivers are receding but are still high
By 4:00 p.m. on November 22, floods on the Krong Ana, Dinh, and Dong Nai rivers were gradually receding but were still at the warning level.
The water level recorded at the stations is as follows: Ba River (Dak Lak) at Cung Son: 31.13m, below alert level 2 is 0.87m; Krong Ana River (Dak Lak) at Giang Son: 425.41m, above alert level 3 is 1.41m; Serepok River in Ban Don: 177.86m, above alert level 3 is 3.86m; Dinh River (Khanh Hoa) in Ninh Hoa: 5.55m, below alert level 3 is 0.15m; Dong Nai River in Ta Lai: 112.66m, above alert level 2 is 0.16m.
In the next 24 hours, floods are forecast to continue to fall on the Krong Ana, Dong Nai and Dinh rivers; the crepok river (in Ban Don) will continue to fluctuate at a high level above alert level 3.
85 dead and missing, many communes are still deeply flooded
Human losses continue to increase. As of the afternoon of November 22, 85 people have died and gone missing, of which 72 people have died (Hue 2, Da Nang 2, Gia Lai 5, Dak Lak 44, Khanh Hoa 14, Lam Dong 5) and 13 people are missing (Quang Tri 1, Da Nang 2, Dak Lak 8, Khanh Hoa 2).
Regarding flooding: Gia Lai: no more households are flooded. Dak Lak: There are still 4 flooded communes and wards including Hoa Xuan, Dong Hoa, Hoa Thinh, Hoa My - many areas are deeply flooded. Khanh Hoa: water has receded in most residential areas, while 87 households (364 people) in Dien Dien and Hoa Tri communes were flooded. Lam Dong: basically the water has receded, people are cleaning up; there are still 127 flooded households (105 households in Nam Da commune, Cat Tien 22 households).
Localities list emergency support needs:
In the context of continued updated damage, the need for emergency support from localities shows the severity of the impact of this flood. Gia Lai had to ask for 2,000 tons of rice, 3,000 kg of chemicals to treat water Cloramine B, 100,000 Aquatabs. Dak Lak needs up to 2,000 tons of food, thousands of medicine bags, social security bags, more than 30,000 liters of disinfectants and a large amount of plant and animal varieties to restore production.
Essential infrastructure in many provinces is still under great pressure. More than 1.17 million customers have lost power, and there are still more than 258,450 cases that cannot be restored, mainly in Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa and Gia Lai. Specialized networks and public telecommunications networks continue to be disrupted as hundreds of BTS stations lose connection. Traffic is not yet open as 13 national highways are still flooded or landslides, 6 railway sections must be closed to traffic.
While heavy rain is still complicated, localities are racing against time to overcome the consequences, ensure safety and gradually restore people's lives.
